I want to start a suicide/self harm awareness club at school? - September 11th 2012, 01:25 AM

Okay, so this is suicide awareness week, and my school hasn't said anything about it. We have something called SAP (student assistance program) where you can report people for drugs and keep it confidential. I wanted my school to make an anouncement about suicide awareness week or possibly even start something at school about self harm and suicide....I don't know, a club? Or an organization of some sort? What do you think? Where should I go from here and any ideas?

i dont know if your school is anything like mine but in my school if you want to start a club or something like that you should have a teacher sponsor and then have the teacher or you ask the principal. Good luck i hope your school can have that club cause my school has nothing even like it

I agree you need a teacher sponsor, and then either go to the main office or counselors to ask about starting a club. But before hand I would just ask if the school would allow such a club! I do like the idea of the club, but some schools don't find it suitable for its students. Dealing with those topics, usually a school would just send the student to the counselors, and the counselors would call home and contact parents.

I think you should talk to people about it, start by telling your friends and ask how they like your idea, if you have a small group and go to a teaher, deputy/principal then it would be more likely that they would listen and take it into account

Try it out and never, never give up!

Best of luck,
Jay.
