Unhappy School is definitely the hardest. - March 26th 2013, 02:58 PM

School's hard for anyone, but for me, it's almost unbearable.
Every day I have to go round smiling, pretending everything is okay. Everybody falls for it, luckily. I don't understand how though, because looking in the mirror, my eyes look pained and agonised.
I just feel like I'm stuck in some sort of hole whilst everybody else is moving on without me. Why can't I just be normal?

I'm sorry that school is hard for you! Is it hard because nobody understands what you are actually struggling with? If that's the case, maybe talk to some people about it. A lot of times when we are struggling we wait for people to reach out to us, because they should be able to see what we feel. But that's not how it works, honestly. People can't see that you are hurting unless you say something. Or if they can see that you are hurting they may not know how to reach out to you... I suggest maybe talking to a close friend or a person in the school of authority (teacher, school counselor, etc.)

Hi, Georgia.

School and other things can be more difficult than usual when you're struggling with other issues. Are there problems at home or other things bothering you/upsetting you? Either way, I'm sorry you're going through this. I know you may not believe it right now, but things do get better, sweetie. Just hang in there and keep trying. Life is hard sometimes but it's possible to get through the storm and be happy.

Keeping everything inside can cause problems. It's good to be open about your feelings so you can get stuff off your chest and not have many things bottled up all the time. Can you open up to friends, siblings, your parents, teacher, school counselor about how you're feeling? You could write it in a letter to make it easier to tell them. Talking to someone about things is never easy of course, but it's worth it. You won't feel so alone and you definitely don't deserve to have to go through the sadness alone, it makes it hurt so much more and feel so much more lonely.

Doing fun things could help you as well, things you enjoy. Listen to music, play games, watch tv/movies, draw, paint, take up beading or arts and crafts, go for walks, play sports, go bike riding, play board games with family/friends/siblings, cuddle with a pet, try out photography. To express yourself better, you could write poems/short stories that express your feelings, or just generally write how you feel in a journal. Anything could help.
