Is it really self harm? - September 14th 2016, 11:05 PM

Hey.

I seem to bother people a lot with my threads. I kinda understand that. But I'm just trying to let my mind rum free for a few moments.

Anyways, this thread is more for a question: is it considered self harm if you don't think it harms or hurts you? I don't know. It's something that has been keeping me up recently and I wanted to see what other people think.

I think that it would still be self harm because even if you don't think it is hurting you, if it is something you are doing intentionally that is leaving a mark/wound/bruise/etc of some kind is is fairly likely that you are doing damage to your body. You are still intentionally inflicting that damage for the purpose of coping, so it is self harm. Remember even "minor" injuries still count and are as valid and important as the more "severe" ones.

Self harm is where you do some thing on purpose to yourself in order to harm yourself. If you are doing it to get pain to harm yourself then yes, I would say so. You're not bothering anyone at all by posting on the site. Its what we're all here for!!
