Does it ever feel like we need to just leave out parents alone? - September 26th 2016, 07:57 AM

She is having a bad week. There is nothing I can say or do to make her feel better? I am trying. Now, when I get home from school, I do a quick "hi" then do something else until she feels like she wants to talk to me. DO others feel like they just want to leave their parents alone?

I mean, yeah. My parent work in jobs where there is a high degree of confidentiality. Health care, patients, enough said.. So I'm not allowed to ask them about their jobs. If they were having a bad week, I could not ask and help if I wanted too because they obviously can't tell me that someone died or maybe that someone my age had a drug overdose and now their freaking about "what if my kid makes this sort of mistake" or something like that.

They'll be ok. It's great if a parent can talk to their kid, but overall they don't want to make their problems their child's problems. They typically talk to a partner or a friend if they can. If that isn't possible and things are really bad, I'd hope they'd talk to a therapist or something, but I don't think it's weird that a parent ent confide in their kid about everything and it's not your fault your mom isn't letting you help. You can always just say your worried and that you hope she'll talk to someone if she needs it.

Yeah, sometimes I do. This is especially true because one of them tends to take their moods out on other people, and since I am working on myself, I don't want to allow myself to get hurt because of how they're feeling. I can easily cheer one of my parents up, and will if I can. The other one has moods that are kind of unhealthy for everyone around them.

Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first

As much as I would love to leave my parents alone, My mom always wants to talk about the mean rude customers at her work and her co-workers. Even if i don't ask, which I don't 90% of the time knowing there isn't anything I can do, she still goes on and on about it. I think it just helps for her to have someone to vent to, even if there isn't anything I can really do to help her. You know?
