feeling terrible - May 16th 2017, 11:24 PM

so for the past couple of weeks i've been feeling really off. my mood is constantly low and i feel like i'm stuck in a depressive episode. each time i manage to get myself in a good mood, it doesn't last very long and soon enough i'm back to feeling pretty crappy.

my head is so messed up lately and i feel like i'm alone. it feels like no one truly cares about me and that i have no one to turn to. i want to speak to one of my friends about how i feel but i'm worried that they're all sick of dealing with my depressive and negative self.

i'm just not sure on what to do to stop myself from bouncing back into my depressive moods in an instant and i guess i just don't know how to help myself in general

Sorry you've found yourself in this situation recently. I know it can be easy to focus primarily on the negative moods you've been in, but you mentioned that you get yourself in a good mood sometimes. How do you usually do this? Are there certain activities you do? Certain people you see? Although the good mood might be temporary, they still happen, so it's important to grab hold of those times with both hands and try not to let go of them. Do more of the things you enjoy. They're not a cure to anything, and if you've been suffering from depression, they wont necessarily cure it straight away, however, if you can get yourself into a routine of doing things you actually enjoy, you may find that life itself becomes more joyful too.

I also think that a perspective thing would help. You say that the good moods don't last very long, and of course, they're temporary. But, the fact that they come and go means that the negative days where you're unhappy are also temporary. It can be really difficult to adjust how you see things like this but try to remind yourself that all mood states are temporary. You'll never be permanently happy or permanently upset, they come and go. One may be more prominent at the moment but they can change.

I really think that the fact you speak to your friend about how you feel is amazing. Sometimes people might get tired of hearing about how upset we are but it doesn't mean they don't care or wont listen anymore. They may be upset too simply because their friend is going through something so difficult. Don't give up on speaking to them about how you feel. We can trick ourselves into thinking the worst of something that's really good sometimes, so don't let those thoughts win.

I want you to know that you are cared about. Your friend cares about you or else they wouldn't have listened to you at all. If you can, try reaching out to more people and share how you feel with them too. You may feel less alone that way and it might ease your conscience a little bit if you're worried about always talking to the same person. Otherwise, everyone here at TH cares for you so much as well. It's why we're all here! So use the forums, pop into chat, use LH and HL. You can get through this, but asking for a bit of help sometimes is perfectly ok.

I hope you're doing alright. Take care!

Hi Molly,

I'm really sorry to see that you're going through this. I definitely know where you're coming from when you feel like no one cares and that you're all alone.

However, I must say, you're definitely not alone. I know you might not feel like it, but we are all here for you. Everyone here on TeenHelp cares about you. Hollie has given you some AMAZING advice.

I know people say that there's really no cause to feeling depressed, when you have depression, but I'm just wondering if you've ad any drastic changes in your life recently that might have something to do with the way you're feeling? I know even when you have depression sometimes something might happen that will make you feel depressed suddenly.

I do hope you start feeling better soon. If you still feel this way then I highly recommend reaching out to a trusted adult like your doctor or a therapist. They are there to help and will help make sure you feel better! Keep your head up.

Stay Strong,
