I just want to feel happy - July 14th 2017, 07:12 PM

I just never feel happy anymore. I often find myself just feeling miserable or looking at things in a negative way.

Does anyone else get this?

Hey Justin,

I can understand what you're saying here. I really think that all situations have negative aspects, so no matter what's happening, it can get to a point where it's second nature to focus on the darker parts of life than the lighter ones. I know I definitely do this a bit too often, and the more you reflect on it, the worse it seems. What I find helps is deliberately looking for the positives in situations which you find yourself in. For example, if you're having a bad day, spend a moment or two thinking about what you might have missed which has been better. If a person gave you a smile, remember that because it breaks up the misery a bit. If you're out and about and you see someone performing a good deed, let that be a reminder that the world is also full of really beautiful things as well. It might not come as naturally as seeing things in a negative light, but if you can somehow get into the habit of making yourself notice the nicer things too, it may just give you a reason to keep looking for them.

You can also try implementing these things into your own life too. For example, if you've seen someone smile at you and this has stuck out as a positive thing, try smiling at people yourself. If you're in a shop, strike up a conversation with the sales assistant, or if you're out and see someone in need, give them a hand! For me, when I finish volunteering I come out feeling a million times better simply because I know I've made an impact on someone else's life, and this can be a really rewarding feeling to have.

You should know that by being here and spending time helping people you are doing just that though. You deserve to find things that will make you feel better about life, even if they're really small! Keep looking for them and you will find them, it may just take a bit more work to make yourself look.

Chin up!

Re: I just want to feel happy - July 14th 2017, 11:46 PM

just wanted to say that i have a big thing of looking at all the bad things of something/someone which makes me think of it being worse than it is

i do feel like life hasnt been fair but i have had times to realize that ive been pretty spoiled and the truth was just that i could sometimes focus too much on what i didnt get, so i feel like i'm not happy, thats why. It isn't what i make it out to be
