Melancholy - July 23rd 2018, 01:45 AM

[SIZE="a"]I am feeling very sad and melancholic right now. Keep playing Adele on repeat. It's the same thing that I've been dwelling over for the past 3+ years, certain online friends that are no longer part of my life. I thought I've made improvements in the months since last autumn, but evidently not. Their social media accounts have climbed back up to the most frequently visited website on my Firefox browser.

I already reached out to my counselor about this back in October. She gave me an exercise to do and it helped. But nine months later, it's like nothing has changed. I don't want to bring it up with my counselor again, she's just going to say write about it. But write, writing just isn't enough sometimes. I need more.

Help, please.[/size]

Writing isn't for everyone. I'm no therapist.
What helps me is drawing or doodling, roller skating, and training my dog. Rollerskating may not help if you don't know how but other active activities may help like swimming, sports, taking walks or something. Many cities have parks full of nature which is soothing. And training a dog also isn't helpful if you don't know how to do it, but having a pet like a dog or bird can help, but is not recommended if you're in deep depression.

Defintly do talk about this with your therapist. Tell her that it seems like writing just isn't working and she'll find another thing for you.

I am sorry you feel this way. Have you though about blocking all of there social media accounts that way you can't look at them anymore? I think that may help in the long run. I also would advice you to try and make new friends online or in real life. That way you can focus on hanging with them.

It's not healthy at all to be living in the past, and torturing with yourself with what if's and wondering if you guys where still friends what you guys would be doing.

Also another thing that might help is to set a time of day and allow yourself just 30 minutes to think about them and maybe even looking at there social media, then in a week make it 25 minutes, then 20, 15, 10, 5 and then not at all. It may help you break the cycle.
