Exclamation help please (depression) - May 30th 2009, 03:26 PM

A little under a year ago i went through a severe depression and was suicidal and self harmed. I finally got myself out of it and it has been months since ive been depressed but lately ive been getting really annoyed with my parents and im starting to get depressed again. I dont want to go through all that pain again. What can i do to keep myself from sinking into that depression again?

Hey there (:

It's a great start posting here! You have accomplished a lot and will continue to do so. Sometimes we hit those bumps in the road, but there is still that nice open road to look forward to! It's good to recognize that you don't want to be in that situation again and you are definitely taking the right actions into preventing it.

It might be time for a day just for you! How about getting some of your favorite food or treat, get comfy, and watch a movie? Or go on a nice long walk and bring some good, happy music to walk to the beat? Take some time for you, do the things you love and that make you feel good! You deserve it so much. How about calling up a friend to talk? Or a family member?

You can do it! You are a very strong soul. Try things that make you find the good. =D

If you ever need to talk, feel free to send a message my way anytime!
I hope everything works out and things will look up!

One of the biggest things for me is to just keep an open mind. If you're sad, let yourself be sad, but find some time in the day to be happy too! Go for a walk and feel the sun in your face and the wind in your hair. Don't stress yourself out worrying if you're going to go into depression again because that probably WILL make you depressed. Eat healthy and spend time being social with your friends.
I understand how hard depression is to deal with and how awful it is realizing you might be prone to getting it again. (speaking from personal experiences) But you can't let fear run your life. Smile and have a good day, message me anytime.

You must focus on and do things you enjoy. Hang with your friends, have fun maybe crash at your friends house for a night or so, give yourself some breathing space from your parents. And remember, despite any arguments you and your parents have, they still love you.
