Movies about Suicide? - August 7th 2009, 07:39 PM

Are there any good movies about suicide (teen suicide in particular)? I've seen the Virgin Suicides, which I think sucked, and Girl, Interrupted, but I haven't been able to find many others. Any suggestions?

Oh, and I saw Downloading Nancy, which isn't fantastic but the lead actress is mind-blowingly awesome. I'm in... well, awe.

2.37 is about teen suicide. [Full film on Youtube, haven't found it anywhere else]

The Bridge is a film doc about The Golden Gate Bridge. It's quite an interesting thing to watch if your into documentaries.

Apres Vous is a ''comedy'' about suicide. It starts with a man who is planning to take his life, but then he's found by another man who tries to turn his life around. Subtitled, sounds in French.

Prozac Nation
Girl, Interrupted
The Virgin Suicides
28 Days [Not 28 Days Later]
Gothika?
Donnie Darko

City Rats is an epic film, I love it. It's not long been out on DVD (Y).

There is a biopic film about Ian Curtis. He is the lead singer of Joy Division and suffers from epilespy and depression. He eventually kills himself at age 23. The movie is embeded with the music of Joy Division, which is naturally depressing and moody. This makes so many scenes in the movie emotional and sad. I can't overemphasize how sad it is to watch Ian on stage because you can see he has a problem. He marries too young, and then falls in love with a fan. His cheating causes strife which makes him more depressed, he is so confused about everything.

Here is a trailer. You should really watch the movie. Its amazing. I guarantee you will be speechless at the end, if not crying.

There are two movies that I know of that I like. One is about a teen girl named Vanessa. She is bullied by her "friends" in extreme ways which leads her to OD. The move is called Odd Girl Out.

Another movie is Prayers for Bobby.

The only movie I know of is called Boy interrupted. It was recommended to me by someone and it looks good. I haven't watched it so I don't know if it is really triggering so be careful.

Hope this helped.

Heathers is, of course, amazing. '80s movie, starring the brilliant Winona Ryder, and not really triggering since it is a (black) comedy.

on the edge, not exactly about teen depression though.

I turn my head to the east… I don’t see nobody by my side
I turn my head to the west… still nobody in sight
So I turn my head to the north, swallow that pill that they call pride
The old me is dead and gone, but the new me will be alright

I saw that. I didn't think it was too triggering, it just told the story about what a boy went through. But still, it's MY opinion, someone else could take it a totally different way.

I just watched 2:37 and it was really good, but extremely triggering.. It was triggering for Abuse, SH, ED, and Suicide. So be careful.. I thought the end had a powerful meaning.. I won't spoil it, but if you watch it, I'm sure you'll find out.

PLEASE be careful watching these..

There's also one that's more about the aftermath of a teen suicide called After Jimmy. Description from Lifetime, a family falls apart after their 18 year old son commits suicide.

Yeah, this is the one I thought of immediately. It's a documentary made by a mom whose 15 year old son killed himself. It's no too bad, but gets really emotional near the end (for obvious reasons).

And...you didn't like the virgin suicides?!?!???? It's one of my favorite books, and though the movie definitely wasn't as good as the book, I thought it was hella good...

how nice- to feel nothing but still get credit for being alive
