Need Advice - October 12th 2009, 09:50 AM

I went to National Depression Screening day the other day, and the lady working the desk said that it seemed like I was severely depressed (duh) and had general anxiety disorder. She told me that if I went to a doctor and talked to them, they could get me a recommendation to see her.

Problem is, I can't afford doctor visits or therapy. She said that there's a sliding scale or something, that lets you just pay $20 or so, but I don't know how I would talk to the doctor's office about arranging that. I have zero experience dealing with doctors and therapists. Heck, I don't even know if I can afford the $20.

So I guess I need either advice on how to talk to the doctor's office about paying less, or some other way to help my depression. I really want to start seeing a therapist, but I just don't know how to arrange it.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you looked into getting help from the state to help you pay for your medical needs?!

Try that
I think it may work

"My life is like a rolling river
So muddy and absurd
And although I might be mistaken
I know that Iíll be heard
And I find the second I try to pull away
Iím thrown back in line
All this time"

Try walking. It's for free, unlike lifting weights. It's exercise. Exercise is proven to encourage more happy chemicals to be produced in the brain. Just make sure you treat the shoes well. Enjoy the views of the city/park while you are at it.

I wish you the best of luck. If you are calm enough to post this, chances are you probably are dealing with life pretty good.

Hey there,

I know the feeling. I am an 'adult' so I have to deal with all my medical issues and it is no fun but doctors are usually really helpful when it comes to stuff like this.

The best thing for you to do is to explain the situation to them and see if there is anything that can be done to help you out. If you are on good terms with your doctors they are even more willing to help you out.

Be honest and they should be able to help you figure things out.

Best of luck.

Jenna

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll look into all of these.
