Vitamin D? - October 20th 2009, 08:23 AM

Unsure if this is the right place...oh well.

I'm an incredibly depressed person.. however I've been very happy this past week. While I truly believe it is because I have a lovely lovely new boyfriend, there's also something I heard about on facebook today.

My friend said that he needs some Vitamin D, stating that it helps keep you happy and whatnot. I was intrigued by what he said. I started to take my vitamins again this week. I take them mostly because I have very low iron and the vitamin I take is high in iron, so it's perfect.

So I looked at the bottle, and sure enough it is full of vitamin D!

So is it true? Does Vitamin D help keep you happy? What other substances (used loosely) can keep you happy that you can buy in walmart or other stores?

Also, a silly story: when I bought these vitamins, I decided to check how many to take per day. then I smacked myself. I was taking One-A-Day.

Yes, it is true - Vitamin D does really help to keep you happy; some people call it the Happiness Vitamin. Lack of Vitamin D may contribute to fatigue and depression. When you go outside in the sun, you absorb Vitamin D from the sunlight, and that's why people generally feel happier when the sun is shining; on a dark, rainy day people may feel low due to the lack of Vitamin D acquired.

Also, a deficiency of the Vitamin B6 can result in low serotonin levels - perhaps you could read about that.
