texting for help? - October 31st 2009, 11:53 PM

are there any numbers to text for help? I created this thread because I'm feeling very depressed and it's hitting me like a brick wall. I'm not always home, and it would be nice to have some kind of hope when I'm without a computer. thanks. And maybe this will help other people too.

I was just looking it up because I think that's a great idea, though I can't find anything like that. =\ Sorry.

that is a really great idea. i dont know that it exists but i wish it did. i know that for me, i have social anxiety so making a phone call, even for help, isnt easy. but texting is easier. i wish that it did exist- i think it would be very helpful.

it's a tough one... i know there's a lot of lines out there that would like to do this, but i heard it's a lot more complicated than it sounds.

i think your best bet might be a local (or toll free) crisis/listening line from your cell, since all you're prolly going to be able to get by text is automated answers.

http://www.befrienders.org/support/helplines.asp - This gives you information about e-mail helplines all around the world.

There is only one text helpline that I know of, which is in New Zealand. It's called The Lowdown << Link.

It would be nice if something like that exists everywhere in the world. I can't seem to find anything, though.

Sorry I couldn't help, neonflower.

Yeah, I'm in the situation of usually if I really need help I'm most likely not going to ask for it. However, I find texting one of my best friend's is easiest and he texts me if something's wrong with him. However that's mostly because his house can't get cell service as we found out.

Heyy - I just had to stop by and point out the Hotlines thread. I know they're not texting numbers, but it may help to have the list handy. You can find it here: http://www.teenhelp.org/hotlines - (: Hopefully you'll find something of use somewhere in there. I would just maybe see if you have any friends or any family members who would be willing to help/reply via text if you ever needed help. There are so many ways of getting advice - don't be afraid to ask for it.

Re: texting for help? - November 2nd 2009, 06:10 PM

thanks everyone. I don't have any close friends like that anymore. But I'll try to see what I can do with the helplines, maybe put them on speed dial, but like a few of you have pointed out, I too have a very hard time speaking, and in public areas, texting is much easier for me. It just hits me, but I never know when or where. thanks again, you've all really helped. :]
