Help. - April 1st 2010, 04:02 PM

Everyone says that in order to combat depression or suicidal feelings you should talk to your friends and family, but my family's the reason I'm depressed. My sister - a straight A student studying at Oxford - is constantly being held up beside me as a measure of my worth, and I'm constantly failing. Every time my mother compares me to my sister I die a little more inside. It's accumulated into a pit of rage in my stomach, weighing down my every move and my mother doesn't seem to understand my feelings, or the fact that she's making them worse.

I got my A-level results today. An A and 2 Ds. My mother got so angry at me, and ranted to me about how my sister got 5 As, etc etc etc. I just feel so insignificant. My mother never even speaks to me, she only shouts. My parents are always arguing over me. I'm so anxious and depressed that my grades get worse because of this. I just feel so insignificant and worthless. Worse, this is all my fault. I just feel like I should end it all.

We all need some extra self confidence... so...

Ok, here is the thing about being compared with other people --> Be yourself. If other people start comparing you to other peers of yours, the pressure might be too much to handle. As in this case of yours. Works to please yourself and do good for yourself. Don't work to please other people, work to please yourself, If you get a grade and are happy with it then good for you. And if you can do better, do it for yourself. If someone starts comparing you to another, then let them compare and you ignore it and go on with your life.

Oh and by the way, you got two 2 A's, if you can work on the other subjects later then do so, but live, those grades will prove to be quite insignificant when you just realize how valuable your life is. It isn't your fault at all. You worked and you got 2 A's. So GOOD AND WELL DONE. Now go and watch a movie and enjoy life. Enjoy going to school, don't let the pressure control your life.

And you know what, I've seen this happen to many people, while it is important to do good at school, it is by far meant to be for your good, not for you or your life to be controlled by your grades. So go and watch a movie and rest.

Which movie would you like to watch ?

I came here to help out, so if you wanna talk or just need someone to bounce ideas or issues off of or something else then send me a message and I will reply as soon as I can.
