Old habits are back. - May 22nd 2011, 03:09 PM

Everything was going great up until last night. I was happier than ever, finally getting my life back on track just cause I could. But then my cat, who has been suffering for a while passed away. It's stupid, I know, to be so upset. But I've had her my entire life. I've sunk into a deeper, darker depression then ever before. How do I get back out?

You've gotta swim, swim for your life. Swim for the music that saves you, when you're not so sure you'll survive. You gotta swim and swim when it hurts. The whole world is watching. You haven't come this far to fall off the earth.

Hey Shelby,

I am so sorry to hear about this. Losing an animal can be like losing a person because you become so attached to them so it is ok to be upset about it. It will take time to come to terms with especially since she has been around all the time whilst you have been growing up. But you have to think at least your cat is not suffering anymore and is at peace. Of course you are going to miss her but I am sure she had a good life with you.

It is possible for you to feel happy again. You will get back out of this but it might just take time. What helped you before to feel happier? Perhaps something could help at the moment lift your mood a little bit.

Stay strong.

Hey Shelby,

I'm sorry about your cat, that isn't a stupid reason to be upset, especially if you've had her your whole life.

Just remember that you were fortunate enough to love something that much. Everything will be okay, like Jen said it'll probably just take some time, you'll come to terms with the death and come out of this.

You can PM me anytime, <3.
