Exclamation My girlfriend's depression- Need Help! - June 15th 2011, 11:14 PM

Hi everyone,

Ok so my girlfriend gets really bad anxiety attacks, that come out of nowhere and hit her. She has bad depression but is currently on medication for it. Obviously she has good days and bad days. She has attempted suicide before and I know she still has thoughts of harming herself...Idk if she ever would act upon those thoughts though. I just need advice on what to do and how to handle the next time an attack happens?

Thanks all

you need to comfort her and just be there for her and try to get her talk and open up about why she is soo depressed... and maybe you should recommend therapy but she might take offence to that or she can go see her doctor and they can put her on pills

I do think you need to try and get her to talk with you about what she is feeling and whats going on with her. I don't recommend forcing her to tell you though. You seem like you really care, and know a lot about her so I am sure she will talk with you.

I wasn't saying necessarily forcing her to talk just see if she will open up some it never hurts to ask

i have been there, although i dont know the reasons behind your girlfriends depression, i know how she feels with the wanting to end it all.
Just be there for her and comfort her. I got through it with the support of my loved ones. it took me a month or so to actually get over the depression but take it from someone who has been there, the simplest "I love you" or "how was your day" will instantly brighten her mood.

Hope everything works out

I would imagine any sort of comfort, concern, or companionship would do wonders. I figure the suicide stems from the thought that life is awful or that no one cares so just do what you can to prove her wrong. You really are a badass for willing to stay with her through this, so kudos to you!

Just letting her know you're there for her can be a huge help. Let her know she can talk to you about anything she wants to and that you'll listen. You do sound like you want to help her which is great but sometimes just knowing someone's there who cares can make things seem better. <3

Always reassure her that you're there to listen and give advice the best you can. Love her like no other.
