What do you do? - July 11th 2011, 03:59 AM

I was watching That 70's Show, and a good question came up.
When someone is depressed, do you show them you care and try and help them, or do you give them space?
What do you guys tend to do?

And here you are living, despite it all.

I like to do both; but mostly help by showing them that I love them

searching for myself...
and hugs. mostly hugs.

I agree with the above. I would do both. I would both support them and give them space as they needed. I know from my own experiences that while it's nice to have people tell you they care, there comes a point when it just becomes too overbearing.

Depends on the person, but I usually show them that I'm there but if that doesn't work, give them space and let them come to me.

I usually get closer to them, because I've found that even if I can't give advice or they aren't searching for advice, it can still help them to have someone to vent to when needed, and someone who can cheer them up with quirkiness or mild humor.

I think it depends on the person for me also. But I usually tell the person that I care about/love them and that I will always be there for them and then I see where that leads to. If I feel like they need to continue hearing that I'm going to be there for them and try my best to help, I will continue to tell them. But if I feel like they'd rather be left alone to think then I'll leave them alone.

If I find out someone is depressed I initially try to help, if they express that they need to be alone, I'll go ahead and give them the space, as long as they know that I'm here if they ever decide they need to talk/hang out etc

Self pity will not rescue you.
Sometimes we have to save our own lives,
not because no one else cares, but because no one else can.

Life for you has been less than kind
So take a number, stand in line
We've all been sorry, we've all been hurt
But how we survive is what makes us who we are.

Dreamed up the maps, give me the charcoal and the paper
We invent paths they cannot see, and they're too scared to walk

Only after disaster can we be resurrected. It's only after you've lost everything that you are free to do anything.

Depends on the person and situation.

Come on boys, come on girls
In this crazy, crazy world
Youíre the diamonds, youíre the pearls
Letís make a new tomorrow
Come on girls, come on boys
Itís your future, itís your choice
And your weapon is your voice
Letís make a new tomorrow
