Thumbs down Tumblr Feeds - October 10th 2011, 05:33 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Those stupid stupid people on tumblr who post those insensitive photos of wrists all slit up. And they don't think we care? I started cutting because one of them triggered me. Don't you just hate it?!

If you are finding those posts triggering then you should stop reading them.

I humbly suggest a moderator get rid of this thread. Referring to where to find these pictures has a lot of triggering potential and little else.

Tumblr is a big place, and she didn't give a link. I think it's fine.

Agreed. A lot of people have Tumblr and we post links of our own blogs for people to follow, I don't think it's a big deal. The OP wrote that it's triggering so I doubt someone will go and trigger themselves.

To the OP: If you don't want to be triggered, either don't go on Tumblr or don't look up those types of things and unfollow whoever is displaying pictures of self-harm.

Re: Tumblr Feeds - October 10th 2011, 05:18 PM

I see where she's coming from though. Sometimes it's really hard not to look at those pictures and sometimes the person you follow doesn't normally post that kind of stuff, it just pops up. Then it gets reblogged and cycled around again and it's hard to ignore when you're struggling with the problem. I've been there and it's difficult because those pictures catch your eye and then they're triggering. I understand what you're going through. I don't think they're completely insensitive though. Some are still currently cutting and so pictures of others going through it too somehow settles the pain. I don't think they did it on purpose or they even thought it might trigger something in others. I know it upsets you but try not to let it get to you too much and if you find it a major problem and the reason you're relapsing so much, perhaps you should take a break from those people or even tumblr itself. <3

Re: Tumblr Feeds - October 10th 2011, 05:26 PM

I agree with Kimmi. Even if you unfollow the person who posts them, there is always a chance they'll appear again. I follow quite a few blogs that never post that type of stuff but I still get the occasional image of it every now and then but maybe unfollowing them is a good idea or closing the page when you see those images.

There is actually an add on for tumblr called Missing E which allows you to block certain images from appearing (I haven't used that feature so I don't know how it works), it might be a good idea to look into that and block those images so you don't see them anymore.
