Dragons?? :( - January 29th 2014, 12:23 AM

Hey, umm.. I know this is prolly cliche of me, but, i really like Dragons(well I am reading "The Rain Wild Chronicles" by Robin Hobb, and i watched "How to train your dragon" and I got interested in "The Hobbit" ... well... i like dragons, lots and lots of Dragons) :| and, the closest thing to one on Earth.. to me... is the Armadillo Girdled Lizard. But i notice they're on the Vulnerable list.
Can I get one as a pet, and, how can i get one?

Hey there,

If you can find a breeder who breeds them, I am sure you can have one.

I enjoy dragons as well, I find them to be interesting. Did you know my first pet I ever wanted was a monkey? I still want a monkey, sadly I can't have one.

Take care.

Hey there,

Unfortunately pets on the vulnerable list are quite difficult to get. I know of the lizard you're talking about since it's actually on my pet wishlist too. However, due to the rarity of them they have a massive price tag (In the UK they're about 2000, so just under $4000) and due to their vulnerability wild caught ones are actually illegal to trade so it may be hard to find a reputable breeder. Also, be careful of breeders offering cheaper ones as there's actually another lizard called the armadillo lizard which is different from the armadillo girdled lizard.

You could always look into other types of lizards which aren't as difficult to find. Though they're not nearly as dragon-looking they can still make good pets. Bearded dragons are pretty easy to find and as long as you do your research beforehand they aren't too hard to keep.

There's also red eyed crocodile skinks that look kinda dragon-like - if you're in the UK you can buy them from this company : http://www.crystalpalacereptiles.com...ocodile-skinks

I'm not sure where abouts you live but I'd suggest checking their legality and research how to care for them before you get one as lizards have special requirements, if you ever end up finding one

I hope this helps!
