Parakeet names - February 1st 2014, 06:25 PM

Hi all!

My mom & I got a new parakeet last weekend, who is such a little chatty sweetheart. He looks similar to this little bird:

While everything seems to be going well, we still have not found a name we like! We've had a couple that we liked, but my dad didn't like, & they're still not something we're really excited about. Any suggestions? I personally like Doctor Who & Sherlock along with quite a few books. So maybe suggestions from those that would be good for a parakeet? Just any nice names would help. Right now, he's little no-name.

What about Raxacoricofallapatorius?

You could call him Raxie for short!

My little cousin has a parakeet named Rio. You could go with something like a Greek god, perhaps. Or a Latin word that means something important to you.

Re: Parakeet names - February 1st 2014, 07:29 PM

If it was a girl I was gonna say Gabby since you said it talks a lot. But I just searched google and found a list of names for Parakeets here's the link: http://www.petnames.net/parakeet-pet-names.html and here's a link to pet bird names: http://www.birdbytes.com/names.html

I hope these help. This is how we came up with our dogs name we searched dog names on the internet and they gave us a list.

Blueberry, maybe?
That's what I named my old parakeet.

Well, I'm fairly sure it's a boy. The nose area is really light right now, but I can see a tiny bit of blue. I still have a bit of doubt though, as I was sure it was a girl. It looks light pinkish right now, but as said, it has a tiny bit of blue, so I feel like it's just going to become a darker blue.

I still say 'Glitter'. I normally name pets based on either their appearance or personality, so maybe you could find something that he does/like/something that defines him. Like, his favourite food, or a habit he has, or something like that. Or you could go for something along the 'blue' lines - so shades of blue, or paint colours (seriously, go browse your local hardware store and check out the names on the paint cans, some of them are really amusing). Failing that, pick a character you like from your favourite show and go with that, if you can get your parents to agree.

Well as far as personality, he's currently being a little butthead. Stubborn, chatty, adventurous. My coworker keeps telling me to name him Blue, but that's so... ehhh. So far, my mom & I have liked Dusty & Stevie. But I haven't found a name I'm in love with yet. Everything just sounds iffy.

Don't judge me for making the connection, but how would you feel about the names 'Finn' or 'Jake'? You said he was adventurous.

I actually wanted to name him Finn or Finnick But either my mom didn't hear me, or didn't like them We've been calling him Stevie, but it's not for sure. I mostly call him butthead.

Ooh, what if you did something like a different shade of blue? Like Azure, Cobalt, Midnight, Sapphire, Periwinkle, for instance? Well, some of those are girl names, but you get what I mean.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I think for now, we're sticking with Stevie, but I will still be looking for other names until we're completely set on one.
