Dog passed away :( Memorial ideas? - July 24th 2014, 02:56 PM

My dog passed away during the time the site was down. I was really disappointed that I wasn't able to get on here to talk about it. I have been having a hard time telling people about it cause they didn't know my dog and also cause I don't want them to feel bad for me. I was sad and I will miss him but I didn't want to make a big deal out of it with my friends (most of whom I barely hear from at the best of times).

It was sad, he was 12 and we knew he was sick for a while, it was just old age things for a long time though, like some arthritis by the looks of it cause he'd limp on one of his legs so we'd help him with that and then he needed some medications for a manageable health issue but then the last month or 2 he got really bad and my family was dreading the day that we would have to put him down. He died the same day we planned to take him to the vet. We aren't sure about the exact cause though, could have been cancer for all we know (maybe that's the "real" reason for the limping), we don't know, but I'm glad he won't have to suffer longer

I want to make a memorial of some sorts for him (like a grave stone for where we buried him maybe) and i am not sure what would be appropriate. Any ideas? I have been mulling it over, still not sure what would be best to honour the pet we invited into our family and whom we loved for so many years.

I'm sorry to hear that your dog passed away. When our family dog passed away years ago, we took a big rock and put his name, dob and dod on it. Nothing too fancy but still something to mark where he's buried.

Oh no. I am so sorry for your loss

You could write a goodbye note. Put whatever you want in there-whether it's how much you loved him, the good times, the most memorial events, or other things. You could make a slide show of all the pictures of your dog. You could make a garden in remembrance of your dog. Pick one of her favorite spots(in your of coruse),& put it there. You could do the same with a tree.

I like Michael's idea of a big rock sort of thing, but if you want you can jazz it up a bit, maybe do a lot of painted rocks in the shape of a heart or some other shape? And inside or around i maybe you could put his favorite toys?

If you want to talk about this, PM me!

I've seen a gravestone specifically for dogs available to buy at the supermarket. Not sure if they'd have some available where you are. You might could find one online like this one, a bit fancy but it's a nice one especially since you could put his picture in it. Just a suggestion. I like the suggestions above too. I'm really sorry about your dog. Losing pets is never easy. Sometimes it helps to talk about it, so, you're free to do so on here. You can PM me if you'd like. And if you want, you can write a poem about your dog and post it in self-expression if that'd help.

I'm so sorry to hear that your dog passed away.
You can also make like a scrapbook for him.

Yeah I'd like to do a grave stone... I'd just have to talk to my parents cause it would need to be delivered which can be expensive so yeah. Thanks for all the support guys! Means a lot to me
