How does your doctor/ you check your dog's temperature?

Umm.. My dog had fever this weekend and the vet put the thermometer in dog's anus to take his temperature. I am just worried if that is the way it is the way it is supposed to be done? I really don't like the idea of something being put up his anus like that. :nosweat:

Yes the thermometer goes up the dogs ass to get a read on it. That is how it is supposed to be done. It doesn't damage anything or hurt the dog it is perfectly fine. No need to worry.

That's how it's supposed to be done. The vet we take my dogs to always have done it that way, it doesn't hurt the dog in anyway. It's more uncomfortable for you then it is for the dog. (It still is uncomfortable for them; but it doesn't hurt them) :nosweat: There's no need to worry. :)

Your dog probably didn't like it much either. :bleh: But it's actually totally normal. It would be very difficult to take a dog's temperature the way you'd take a human's, so this is the most accurate way of doing it. So, yes, it's not pleasant, but it's effective. :p

That's how a vet is supposed to take a pet's temperature. When my cat was a kitten I had to check his temperature regularly to make sure he was warm enough. He hated it. XD Obviously it's uncomfortable for the pet, but it does not hurt them in any way. (it'd be uncomfortable for you too :p)

Thanks guys!

I felt like it was invading my dog's private space, so I just wanted to know if it was the right way to do it or if there is any better option.

Thanks again.

Well if you go into Vet Science you can try to come up with a better method. For now, this is all we've got. :p
