A Sad Day - January 20th 2016, 02:35 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of death or grieving, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

On Saturday I had to get my beloved rat, Tatters, put to sleep. She'd had a tumour growing for the last few months and due to her age having it removed surgically would have been very risky so I opted to keep her comfortable as long as I could. Sadly, the tumour had grown too big and she was struggling to get around as well as squeaking a lot if anything pressed on it so I made the decision to ease her suffering.

I know I made the right choice but I can't help feeling sad, especially because she's left behind her cagemate, Stitch, who's alone now and she won't understand why Tatters isn't coming back. Everytime I go into the room she comes out and starts looking to see if Tatters is returning whereas before she would just stay in her house most of the time.

RIP Tatters.

Here she is when I first got her

And this is the most recent photo I have of her without the tumour

I am so sorry. You definitely did make the right choice but it still definitely is sad because our pets are our best friends. If you want to talk you can PM me at any time.

I know you are looking for a sea that lies beyond your reach
But im hoping my heart can stop you before you reach the beach
I know you have places to go
I know that you want the sea
But im hoping my heart will grow and that you'll
come back to me.....

I'm so sorry to hear this. I know how much your pets mean to you and I know this can't have been an easy decision, but you made the right call. It's made even harder by the fact that you still have another rat who won't understand what's happened, but it will get better in time (as I'm sure you know).

Losing a pet hurts so much. You made the right decision. I've had to do the same with one of my guinea pigs and it's horrible but she's not in pain any more.

Perhaps you could look into getting a new cage mate for Stitch so she doesn't get lonely? Otherwise, just make sure you spend lots of time with her and give her lots of love.

Tatters had a wonderful home, and I'm happy to know she was so cared for. I'm really sorry, Cara.
