What was your first pet? - July 4th 2016, 12:13 AM

I thought this could be a fun little thread. Tell me about your first pet, whether it was the first one you remember having in your family or the first one that was actually "yours".

Mine was a little black and white rabbit when I was in preschool. He had the softest fur and the nastiest temper, and he was only with us for a couple of years but he lived those at a pretty quick pace. We used to refer to him as a vampire rabbit because of his habit of biting necks when you picked him up to cuddle him, and he chewed through so many cords it's a wonder he never electrocuted himself.

Come to think of it, it's lucky I loved animals so much or this first experience might have turned me off them for life.

The first pet I had in the family was a bird named Daisy. I was really little and I'd knock the poor thing's cage over to watch him fly around and my dad would slap my hand and then I'd do it again. Heh.

The first pet that was actually mine was my dog Misty. I got her for my birthday one year. I think maybe when I was in grade 1? She was the runt of the litter but something drew me to her. And yes, I did name her after the Pokemon character.

We had a family dog and then my first pet that was mine, I was about 4 or 5 was a goldfish we named Mr. Fish, we eventually got him a friend (Mr. Fish's Friend) and within a week they both died So, we got a third fish that seriously refused to die, when we moved we had to give it to our neighbors.

Does SeaMonkeys count? Having never had an actual pet, that's the closest we got

They were just starting to grow and become visible to the naked eye, when my mum picked up the little tank thing by the lid to clean the area that it was on. The lid came off and everything went on the floor. Bye bye seamonkeys

I think that my veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery first pet was actually a fishy fish :P I don't recall much about it though.

Later on I had a hamster, which was a lovely little ball of fur.

The risk I took was calculated, but boy, am I bad at math.

Re: What was your first pet? - July 4th 2016, 10:49 AM

I had a dog and cat that were family pets since before I was born, but the first pet I was responsible for was a Syrian hamster. His name was Monkey because he like to hang from the top of the cage and go across the top in a monkey bar fashion. He actually lived well past three years to almost five I think. I was so devastated when he died that I created a makeshift coffin out of a shoe box and Barbie accessories and stored him in our extra freezer until we made a trip to our property in the mountains to bury him. I lived in the city and was a weird kid, okay?

against every odd that is stacked against them.” — Nikita Gill

I don't know how many goldfish I had but I would go to summer day camp and win a fish at the carnival. I would name it "Sarah the fish" every time. They'd usually die a week later.

One year there was a caterpillar in my grandmother's backyard. I took it home and watched the whole process happen of going into a cocoon and cracking open into a butterfly. I named the butterfly "Sarah the butterfly" Then I opened the window and watched it fly away. :')

And forget all the ladybugs and fireflies. All named Sarah too.

Right now I consider my first real pet to be my cat. I had him for a while-it will be 10 years this August. I got him when he was only 2-3 weeks old <3 I love him so much.

My parents had a cat when I was born but I can't remember her. They got another cat shortly after the first died, and that cat was such a jerk. I mean, I think he may have been feral or stray, which definitely explains his aggressive behavior. I remember him biting me a few times as a young child. He attacked the neighbor's mum and was put down after that.

I got my first cat when I was seven, but I may have had a hermit crab and hamster before that. I can't really remember much from my childhood.

My very first pet was a darkish-brown-and-white rabbit called Flecki, which I guess means something like "Spotty" in English and is easily the most average pet name there is, but I was only six, so that's okay. My sister and I both got our very own rabbit (but of course they lived together and loved each other very much) and I remember that I picked mine because he was the only one out of the group who couldn't get to the food bowl and I felt sorry for him
He was never weak after that, though, and lived until the beginning of the year. I stil miss you

My very first pet was a calico cat I got when I was two or three. she used to follow me to and from school a lot of the time. It was in walking distance to my house. I had her up until my freshman or sophmore year of high school.

I don't remember which one came first but my first two pets were a wiener dog named Chloe and a calico kitty named Sissy

They both were so sweet, and have unfortunately passed on but they were great pets and I miss them both a lot

My first pet wasn't actually mine, but they got him because of me and I am the one who looks after him so I just say he is. He's a golden labrador called Neelix we got when I was 6, because I was terrified of dogs so they got me a dog that would end up bigger than I was at the time. Of course now he's a lot shorter and also the reason I love dogs so much.

My first pet that was actually mine was a mouse we got given by some friends. My sister got one and I got one. She got the fat one though Mine was Misty and her's was Midnight. Mine did happen to be killed by Midnight but I totally don't have a grudge against a mouse or anything...

I had a tortoiseshell cat called Tospey. My parents had her and her brother, Whiskey, for ages, but Whiskey died before I was born. Topsey was named after the painter William Morris, as Tospey was his nickname (my mum is an art teacher and adores Morris). She was already quite old when I was born, and although we were told she had a heart condition and wouldn't live long she lived til she was 19!

The first pet I had was a fish. I remember I picked the kind with red heads because they were weird looking.

This is both sad and cracked me up at the same time. I had sea monkeys a couple of times. I remember when I was little I stopped feeding them but they still lived on.

And here you are living, despite it all.
