If my dog broke her back I would put her down. They are going to be in a lot of pain and they aren't going to have a great life because they can't do as much as they used too. Honestly I think your parents are making the right decision by wanting to put the dog down. It's better for the dog because the dog is probably suffering.

I agree it is best to put him down. Just try to make his last few days the best you possibly can, let him do all the things he lives so he can enjoy his last moments with you. Please LM me if you need anything my thoughts are with you

Putting a dog down isn't the only option. You can give your dog up to a shelter who will take them and do treatment to fix the spine. Not all broken backs in dogs result in non-operational surgery. Do you know if it is a broken bone it could be a ruptured disk. Which if it's a ruptured disk surgery can be successful.

You can also research organizations who take in dogs with broken backs or a ruptured disk. Lots of organizations will pay the fees because that is what they do.

May I ask what breed your dog is? Some breeds it's common for spinal issues.

It's really hard when an animal hurts themselves so badly. I don't think you can force your parents to not put the dog down. But, if what was said in the previous post is true, maybe you could do some research to see if there is a shelter that would take them and fix them. While, you would still lose the dog at least you would not have to see it put down.

Something else you could do is ask your parents if you could go in and talk to the vet to see what they have to say about the dogs chances. If the vet tells you the dog has a chance but it would cost a lot then maybe you could look into shelters or ask your vet for some names of shelters.

Best of luck.

Hi Madison,

I'm so sorry to hear that you dog broke his back. You must be going through a hard time right now. I know just how hard it is for one of your pets to be put down. I've gone through it 5 times within the past 4 years between my pets and my best friends pets (who were also like my pets). In the long run, it will be best for your dog, and even though it will be hard at first. However, like the others have said, your dog will be in pain which probably won't go away. I think it's best for him. It's hard seeing your pet in pain.

Stay strong.
Brittany
