How to stop? - November 30th 2019, 01:23 AM

In February Sasha will be two years old, the problem I'm having is my dad thought it would be cute when she was a baby to feed her with a spoon because she wasn't eating a lot. If you don't do this, she will cry. I'm tired of feeding her like this, sorry for sounding mean. I don't know what to do. I keep doing this for her because I don't want to waste the food. I'm at a loss.

You don't sound mean. It's understandable that something that started out as 'cute' or helping Sasha to eat more, is now getting frustrating as she is getting older. Unless she has a medical issue, she should be eating by herself by now.

It sounds like Sasha is really used to being spoon fed, and cries if you don't do this, so it may take some time to train her to start eating from a bowl. Will she eat from a bowl at all? Maybe see what happens if you put some food in a bowl and watch her reaction. You could even put a few treats in the bowl to see if that tempts her. If she's hungry, she may try to eat from a bowl.

If that doesn't work, you might want to wean her off spoon feeding slowly instead. Perhaps put some food on a spoon to get her attention, and with her watching, put the food in the bowl. Or you could hold the spoon in or just above the bowl so that she starts to associate the bowl with feeding.

If she still doesn't eat from a bowl, then you might want to contact a vet or pet behaviourist who might be able to help you.

Thank you so much for you're reply and what you are saying. She will eat her dry food when everyone is busy and can't spoon feed her. When it's dinner time and we give her wet food, that's when she wants us to spoon feed her. I will try what you are saying. Thank you again.
