Blood Parrot Fish. -
June 8th 2009, 06:19 PM
So in our living room, we have a huge fish tank with two blood parrot fish in it. My aunt brought them to us because her tank was too small for them and we happen to have a really big tank. So for the first two weeks or so that they were in our tank, they were fine... eating normal, swimming around, and looking all happy-like. But for the past week, possibly a little longer, the smaller one has been inside a little log thingy at the bottom. It comes out to try to eat when we feed them, but the bigger fish always chases after it until it goes back into the log. So it's been sitting inside the log living off of what little it can get ahold of before the bigger one chases it back.
But they do this weird thing sometimes... The big fish will come over to the log and the smaller one will come out and they'll put their faces really close to each other for a few minutes and then all of a sudden they start doing what looks like kissing. Their mouths actually touch and everything. And then it repeats for awhile before the smaller fish goes back into the log. And another weird thing is that the tank cleaner fish (sucky thing that sticks to the sides usually) has been trying to go into the log... He's either sticking out of the end of the log or he's on top of it. He used to just stick to the sides and mind his own business, but apparently he knows that there's something funny going on too. So I have no idea what's going on. Anyone? Previously Mommy.Wife.Student |

But how come they need to be separated all of a sudden? They've gotten along for a long time at my aunt's house together. And they were doing fine until a short while ago in our tank. I don't understand why they're not happy together now.

I'm not sure how fish mate, but any chance that one is pregnant? It could be like "nesting" or something.

I wish I could help you more, but I know nothing about fish. I searched around on Google though, and found a discussion forum that maybe you could ask around on? I'm not sure how much it could help you, but it's worth a try! The Blood Parrot Forum ::

I don't know why they're being all rawr. I did read somewhere that tropical fish to tend to grow bored of each other, and one can grow aggressive like this. My best bet would be to separate them. As for the mouth thing, Parrot fish do tend to kiss each other. But that's a sign of affection. If one hated the other, they wouldn't be showing affection. I'm not really sure. The forum Thegirlnextdoor89 gave you would probably be your best bet.
[Jer] Oh. And I have a habit of attracting whales, too. Anything that's sea-like. I'm like a gay aqua man. [Jesmica] Mark makes me want to have lots of children. |
