Been over a year but I still miss her -
June 18th 2009, 05:41 AM
My cat, Charmin, was euthanized March 7, 2008. Thirteen days before I turned 16. She had extreme kidney failure. She was 16 too.
I've known her all my life. She was my comfort for when I felt my worst. She was my stress reliever with her gentle purrs and head butts. Still to this day I catch myself expecting to see her pop her head around a corner, giving the look of needing something. There's been a couple times over the past year where I swear I heard her 'moe' again. And now I know, I'm a cat person. My dog, Lucky, is a great pet, but I feel so empty without a cat in my home. I also have a pet corn snake, but he doesn't purr. I have fish, but I can't cuddle them. Even though my mom says there will be no more animals, I still have the strong desire for another cat. One of her main reasons, is that she's allergic to cats and dogs. So I did some research. I came across a potentially hypoallergenic breed of cat—the Siberian cat. I have even found the website of a breeder who lives in my city. My mom's on a trip with my dad so I don't know when she'll be home, and I want to discuss it with her in person. But I have a strong feeling she'll just say the dreadful word. (No.) Siberians come in all domestic coat colours, are semi-longhair, and act a bit like dogs. (They can fetch, they play with other dogs, they come when their name is called, etc.) Anything I can do to convince my mom? |

The best thing to do would be to tell her all of the positive things about the breed and also tell her how upset you are about losing your cat last year (I'm terribly sorry for your loss, I know my older cats going to be going soon and I'm dreading it so much). I used the positive facts to get my Boxer dog. It took me 12 years to get a dog but that was only because my dad was in the way. Try telling your mother your a true cat person and your not sure you can live without one. Maybe using some of the old memories you had with your cat will convince her to let you get another one. Cats are so amazing and if she remembers all of the great moments shared with the cat, she'll want another one just like you do. I hope this helps.

Aww, I'm sorry for your loss. Charmin sounded like a really sweet kitty. My cat, Sunny, is 16, and I know I'll miss him terribly when he's gone.
I agree that you should talk to your mom about it--the worst she can do is say no. That sounds like a cool type of cat! What was your mom like when you had Charmin? She must not have hated her too much, if you had her for 16 years. So why would she object to another one? If I were in your shoes, I would print out all the information that you have on Siberian cats (or save it on your computer), and show it to her at a time when she's in a good mood, and has time to hear you out. Don't get angry if she says no at first, because then she'll be more likely to not give in later. If it turns out that she says no, and means no, maybe you could volunteer at an animal shelter and play with the cats they have there. Shelters are usually short on help, so I'm sure the cats would love the extra attention. Good luck, and keep us posted on what your mom says! Life isn't about worrying,
That's a waste of time. And life isn't about being perfect, It will never happen. Life is about finding yourself, And finding people who accept that person. . ![]() My PM box is always open! |
