This could probably also go in the Pets forum, but I suppose it's up to a mod whether they think it should be moved or not.

I used to ride horses when I was younger I can't afford riding lessons anymore but I still enjoy watching horse racing and show jumping.

Quarter horses are my favorites

Re: any horse riders on here? - August 21st 2009, 08:55 PM

I have lessons and ride my friends horses, but I can't afford my own horse unfortunately. I have been riding for 4 years, I ride loads of different horses, although often now I am asked to ride particulary difficult or young horses, A) as a challenge and B) Because I am the most experienced in our group and they don't always have many available.
The favourite horse I have ever ridden is a pony called Clover. Shes 10 years old, and a show jumper, I love her for to reasons, one is that the feeling of jumping her is amazing and I can do some really challenging jumps with her. I also love her because we work well together. There are some people who just cannot ride her, people who have been riding for 10 years, and she won't canter for them, but I can do pretty much anything, which I really enjoy .

Re: any horse riders on here? - August 21st 2009, 09:03 PM

I absolutely love horses, always have. Sadly, I live in london where it is almost impossible to own a horse unless you are super rich. I used to volunteer at my local riding centre. My favourite pony there was called Pippin. He was a 13.2 hh chestnut haflinger with a flaxen mane and tail. Very temperamental but very gorgeous. My second favourite was a tricoloured psycho pony called Limone (unsure of breed but probably part mustang). Possibly the craziest pony you could ever come across.

Where riding is concerned I'm not the best rider. The only thing I'm actually good at is staying on (I've only ever fallen off once). I hate dressage because it's so annoying and neat. I prefer cross country riding and jumping.

Re: any horse riders on here? - August 22nd 2009, 01:43 AM

I'm horse this and horse that! they are practically my life. i can't afford lessons too often or my own horse but usually from january to June I ride at one barn and then throughout the summer ride ex racehorses at another. Last summer and fall I spent most of my time working at a barn. It was amazing! Total I've probably only been riding for a year or two but I love it! I ride English and plan to do cross country and show jumping one day. Heck, I want to do it all! I'd love to try vaulting someday but I'm not that flexible. Bummer.

My favorite horse breed would have to be either a Gypsy Vanner or Oldenburg. Both are great athletes and my favorite equine sport would have to be cross country. i love the thought of being outdoors with a horse, galloping and soaring over jumps all in one course! That's awesome to me and the perfect way to spend a spring day.

Go Equestrians!

I've been riding for 6 and 1/2 years and It's pretty much my whole life. Right now I'm in Switzerland trainin with a Dressage rider who goes Grand Prix (the highest level). I've owned and leased evrything from ponies, standardbreds, quarterhorses, appy's, arabs and american warmbloods. My passion is dressage and even though i love the tradition and style of it I also like to do alot of bareback riding and occasionally jumping. I've jumped 2' 9" before but i'm just not that into it. I ride eveyday and I've had experience with foals, stallions and abused horses. Stallions are really cool if they're well behaved but other wise they're a pain in the fanny!! I want to open up my own dressage training facility when I get older. I love horses!!!!!!!!!¨Any one who wants to talk horsey can PM me! I'm in need of a horsey buddy!! ^^

Re: any horse riders on here? - August 26th 2009, 02:48 AM

Well. Let's see now. I'd like to think that I'm TH's resident horse expert.

I'm Australian, through and through, so I have a great passion for our Australian Stock Horse, practically the hardest working horse on the planet.
I was born on a stud that breeds them, spent my entire childhood riding them.
I rode Australian Stock style (I know you guys are all like, wtf is that??)
Australian stock riding is half way between English, showy sort of stuff, and western which is all based on work and how good you and your horse are at getting the job done.

Right now, I'm taking English lessons, those include showjumping, cross country, and dressage, every other weekend.
And in my spare weekends, I teach little kiddies how to ride Stock and Western. that's right, I teach. It's the coolest job ever.

I'm also doing an Equine Health and Nursing course, and for about 2 weeks every four months or so, I travel interstate to work at a horse camp.
Oh yes, and earlier this year I did track riding (exercising racehorses) for a few months but pay wasn't great, totally not worth all the bumps & bruises.

My gorgeous Quarter Horse sadly passed away in the 2009 Victorian bushfires.
So right now I'm riding a beautiful, 15.3 hh jump-anything buckskin warmblood named Denny,
I'm training a 13 hh palimino pony named Yella for jumping and dressage. Poor baby was abused and he needs a lot of work to get back into the swing of things.
Also training a 15.2 Paint Quarter Horse named Bobby, he wasleft to paddock for 7 years, and now he'll only work on the left rein!! lol. he's a sweetheart though.

My favourite thing used to be western - I love rodeos and the atmosphere there- not nearly as serious as English riders take themselves lol.
But now that I'm getting into english a bit more, I really love showjumping. At the moment I'm jumping 90 cm and loving every single second.
Oh, and I love mustering cattle. It's the Australian Stockman's favourite past time.

EDIT: OH, OH!!! I FORGOT!
I <3 <3 <3 BAREBACK!!
When I first got my Quarter Horse, I couldn't put a saddle on him. he was abused.... his previous owner used to put a heavy western saddle on him, do the girth up so tight that poor george couldn't breathe, then lunge him for goodness knows how long.
So I couldn't use a saddle for over a year. I had no choice except to ride bareback, and it has improved my balance SO much. it also made me so much closer to my horse.
I can ride bareback at all four gaits, jump bareback, and stand up at all four gaits (on the right horse lol).

I'mma shut up now!!!

If I could get,
Another chance
Another Walk
Another Dance
with him

I would play a song
that would never ever end
I would love, love, love,
To dance with my father again.

I LOVE horses too! I started taking riding lessons when I was about 9 years old. I don't have my own horse yet but my Grandpa has racehorses. Currently he has a broodmare named Diamond who has a very adorable baby. baby is quite shy but I go out to see her and she's starting to like people more. He only has one other horse right now, a two year old. She is my buddy! I've known her since the day she was born. She recently ran her first race and won! She's out for the rest of the year right now with a stress fracture, unfortunately. I went out to see them yesterday, actually. The two year old is so friendly and affectionate. I forgot to bring my brushes so I was just petting her and visiting with her. You know how horses "groom" each other with their mouth? She did that to me. She makes me feel like an honourary horse

I also take Western riding lessons. I'd like to try more English sometime though, I've only ever "ridden" English once. I say "ride" rather than ride because all I did was walk around.

As for my favourite horses... I don't really have a favourite. I LOVE chocolate palomino horses though. I know colour doesn't matter but they are so pretty. I suppose I'm partial to thoroughbreds though because of the aforementioned horses. For my favourite sport... currently barrel racing!

Heaven is high and earth wide. If you ride three feet higher above the ground than other men, you will know what that means. ~Rudolf C. Binding

I ride and have my own horse (: Well pony. He's a 14.2hh QH cross. Fell off him once jumping, my hip is still messed up xD. So far I've only fallen off 4 times, not bad for four years of riding. My favorite event is show jumping, I love it. And my favorite horse would have to be a selle francais. Or a TW (:

I love horses and just riding is so fun and therapeutic I have ridden since I was young. I have my own horse well actually she is a pony. 14HH chestnut mare. She is lovely and has a very nice temperament. But unfortunately is injured at the moment so can't be ridden and isn't rideable till next year at the earliest It sucks big times when horses get injured. My favourite event is show jumping. I haven't jumped anything that high. I want to have more jumping lessons. I really love jumping it is so much fun.
