Looks like we're getting another cat.. -

The last few days, you may or may not have seen my posts on how my grandmother is not doing well. She's not projected to make it more than a couple days. At home, she has a cat (which if you go to my profile, you'll see her [she's the big image, my actual avatar is one of my cats])
Two years ago, November 2008, my little sister and my mother rescued this cat from the outside. She was only a small kitten at the time. She was roaming around outside, and didn't seem to have a mother at the time.
We figured it was destiny for her and my grandmother to find each other. My grandmother's cat had died only a few months earlier, and she was living alone in the house. Everyone said she'd never have another cat. But Tinkerbell (the cat's name) found her. (The cat's name came from the movie "Tinker Bell," which was advertising on TV around that time.)
Ever since Tinkerbell came into our lives, she has been my sister's cat. My sister has always said she'd get that cat when something happened to Grandma.
The thing is, we already have a zoo -- kind of. We have two cats, two dogs, and a bird. The most we've ever had at one time was three dogs, two cats, a fish, and a bird. Our oldest dog passed away of old age in November 2007, only about 7 months after we got our puppy. Fishy Fisherson floated to his death not long after.
The last time our cats have interacted with another cat (they are now 14, approaching 15 this spring) was when Grandma's house had carbon monoxide in it and we brought her and her old cat (the one that passed away) over. And let me tell you, he and my white cat (the one in my avatar) did not get along. We figured it's because they're both males.
When we got our cocker spaniel, our cats did not react well; particularly our white one. He would attack him all the time. We figured it's because the cocker spaniel is black, and the cat is white. We joked that our cat was being prejudice.
Now, all of our pets get along well, with only an occasional attack from the cats. I'm interested to see how they will react to another pet in the house. I'm not sure when my mom's bringing the cat over. She's been alone since Tuesday afternoon. When my mom and sister went over there yesterday, my mom said she's been really lovable. She's never been alone for this long before, since my grandma rarely left her house in those two years.
Our biggest concern is the bird. Our cats don't bother the bird, and haven't in the six years we've had him. She's used to watching the birds in the window, so we'll see.
Does anyone else have any stories about bringing new pets into their families, and how they interacted with the present pet(s)?
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. . .
