I want my cat to like me more. - March 23rd 2011, 12:53 AM

I'm not really a cat person. I prefer dogs, I like to play with an animal. My cat is NOT playful :| he's no fun at all. He's mean :| he's like a naughty teenager, he's out 1/2 the day and when he comes home he rubs up and down my leg, I stroke him for a minute he's all over me but then he tries to bite

When I got him I went to the pet shop to see if they had any kittens, the woman who worked there said someone found him on the streets and brought him there so give him to me for free. He must have lived on the streets for quite a bit so I think that's why he's mean.

I want him to like me more but he's hopeless :/ He just comes home to sleep, eat, pretend to like me and then bites.

I have found that cats are very independent animals. They like to do their own thing and be left alone a lot of the time. They're also very stubborn and always want their way.

My cat isn't playful either. What he calls fun is attacking me in my sleep I try to pet him and he attacks. I constantly have scratches all over me from him lol. You could try getting him/her some cat toys. My cats really like to chase things. I also play with them with a laser pointer.

So basically if you've got a dog you'll probably want to do all the lovey dovey stuff with him/her.

Last time I give him a toy he looked at me like I was insane lol. He's the most serious/miserable cat I've ever met :| I have two dogs who are happy/fun-loving so I'm glad I have them.

Cats like to be by themselves. They aren't like dogs, who crave for attention. Cats usually sit by themselves for most of the day, and they like to be left alone. If he wants your attention, he will usually strut by you. But otherwise, it is just best to let cats be by themselves. They also sleep a lot too.

Cats can be strange. Some love to play, some love to claw, some love to keep you on your toes.
Apparently, cats sometimes respond best to people who tend to ignore them. I guess that kind of matches how solitary cats are.
You could try watching your cat for a while. Just see what he likes to do, and if there's any way you can make that a sort of group activity.
My cats really like it if you have a dark room, and turn on a torch, then move the light so they can chase it. I know other cats who love catnip, some who enjoy playing with string - it's all a matter of finding out what your cat likes. Also, this could help him get used to you - if you're there, but not actively enaging him, he'll get used to your presence.
It may not be that he doesn't like you - he may just naturally be aloof, in which case there's not much you can do about it.
When you're patting him, try and keep it short and sweet. Some cats get really annoyed if you stroke them from head to tail too many times, so it might help to stick to patting the head area. My cat can be really affectionate one minute, then turn and maul you the next. Sometimes the trick is waiting for the cat to come to you - ie, don't try and pat him when he's in a bad mood (not suggesting you would, just saying); wait until he comes to you to be patted, and then, if he wants to walk away, let him.
Also, crazy as it sounds, I believe cats can sense how you feel, to an extent. Chances are he knows you prefer dogs. So just try and make it clear that you still like him, that you respect him, and that you want to be friends with him. Focus on giving out 'good energies', so to speak.
Oh my goodness, I sure can ramble on about cats, huh?

He probably does know I prefer Charlie and Miley (my dogs) The weird thing is he loves my mother, she's the only human he likes.

I may just stick to him using me for food I'll try and ignore him some more.

The thing with cats is that they have a very noticable personality, and every one is different. My cat's not too violent luckily, she'll only scratch when you stroke her in a way she doesn't like. And sometime she bites when you do that too. Most of the time though, if she bites it's an affection bite, but we tell her off for that.

Cats do like to be left alone, so I'd suggest not making too much of a fuss out of him unless he comes to you for one. If you do want to, get some food or something, my cat usually rubs around my legs until she gets it then. If he likes being brushed, that's also a way to get him in a good mood, my cat pretty much brushes herself where she likes it so much, and usually that way I can stroke her and she just liked it even more!

I have 7 cats...had 13 at one point. They really do all have individual personalities. All my cats have been indoor cats tho. I think they are more loving than outdoor cats. I have 3 who want me to pet/hold them all day long... i have to lock them out of my room to get any homework done lol. You should try giving your cat treats... they like food. Also, hav u tried using a laser to play with it? mine go crazy when they see that.

what makes any cat into a good mood is catnip

also i have a cat, And well She loves me but most animals like me.
from what i learned the best way to get a cat to like you is to get it when its younger so the cat can get used to you. but other then that, there is no real way to get a cat to like you

Re: I want my cat to like me more. - March 25th 2011, 05:37 PM

My grandma's cat was like this. We found her outside around Halloween; at the time, she was only a small kitten. We brought her in, and she lived with my grandma for two years.

Then my grandma fell and went into the hospital. My grandma's cat came to live at our house. Since we have two other cats, two dogs, and a bird, she's living in my bedroom. She cannot bring herself to get along with the other animals.

At first, she would always bite me. Then, I left for college, and she doesn't get as much attention when she's at our house. My grandma was always around to give her attention. At our house, my mom works and my sister goes to school, and I'm only there once a month or so. So, she's mainly on her own.

I find that if cats are left alone and you don't bother them, then they'll be more friendly. Generally, it's important to let them approach you, and be gentle with them. I know sometimes they can be deceiving. They'll be all loving, then try to nip you. Tinkerbell hasn't been biting me near as much as before, now that she's been alone most of her days.

Cats are very independent animals, but even they get lonely.
