Peeing everywhere! -
December 10th 2011, 11:42 PM
My neutered boy cat, Sam, pees when he goes into rooms and can't get out. This might sound normal but it's for short periods like an hour or two. My dad thinks its his fault because our last cat and dads old cat could be in a room for whole days and not pee.
Is there anything we can do to get him to hold on longer? He's only young and his sister doesn't do it at all! |

It could be mainly 2 possibilities: Peeing is dog's way to mark their territory. Well he wants his territory, so if you don't have a like corner or basket for him, that may be the problem.
2) like my dog, he's a rebel. Get locked in a room--> temper tantrums and pee everywhere to complain. |

This is why my mom won't get a male cat, they do this all the time.
![]() For whetever reason, male cats just pee a lot, there are some of course that don't do this, and the likelihood of it happening is decreased if they're neutered, but sometimes they still do it, like yours. Sounds like you might have a few reasons. The biggest one to me sounds like anxiety. How old is your new cat? If he's still young, it might just be that he's freaking out over not being able to get out and be free. Hell, might still be the case if he's old too! If I was stuck in a room for an hour or two and couldn't get out with nothing to do, I might get really nervous too. Like dogs, he might be marking his territory. Although if this is so continued, it might be unlikely unless you have other cats around, especially female cats. Random peeing could also be a sign his litter box isn't clean enough for him, they're very persnickety, but if it's only happening when he's locked in a room perhaps this isn't the reason either. Just a suggestion I suppose. Or it could also be a sign of a urinary infection, and the reason he's doing it in locked rooms is because he can't get to a litter box. Is he going to the bathroom normally when he's free, or does it seem like he might actually be going every few hours? It could also be that peeing hurts for him because of said infection, and he associates the box with pain... There are lots of reasons a cat might stop peeing in his litter box, but I can't think of too many that explain peeing in a locked room only. I suppose my only suggestions would be to try and get another litter box or two, and try not to lock him in a room, on accident or on purpose. Hopefully this helps. Hey there.
I'm a pet sitter for my area and love cats and dogs and each animal has their own personality and well your cat is just simply pissed. There is no difference in female or male cats. I had a female cat piss allll over my super nintendo and break it. I was livid. I have also locked my male cat in my closet numerous times and he has never peed on anything, BUT when we don't clean his liter box, that is when he decides he is going to go piss on a bed or poop on a bed. Cats are temperamental. It just depends on what makes your cat happy and unhappy. Don't like the cat up anymore, he doesn't like it. It's not a bladder issue or a territory issue, he simply just doesn't like being locked up. If you have to lock him up, make sure he has food, water, a liter box and a window to look out of. Cat pee is nasty and smells ten times worse than dogs and harder to get out I hope this helps.Chase So stand in the rain Stand your ground Stand up when it's all crashing down You stand through the pain You won't drown And one day, whats lost can be found You stand in the rain -SuperChick |

It may not be because your cat has behavoral problems. I have two male cats one pees on the floor constantly but he also has a blockage in his intestinal track. So I would get your cat checked out and during that time ask the vet if his tests come back clean if he can give you an answer to why your cat is doing that.
