my mum found out last year after she saw one of my arms. I don't know if she thinks I've stopped or not, but she never knew the full extent and we never talk about it. My dad has never known and I don't plan on telling him. Ever.

Told my father at 16. He cried when I told him, then ended up blackmailing me with it a few months later.
Told my mother during spring break. She also cried about it when I told her, but now acts like I never told her anything and thinks I'm fine.

And I always thought when I'd finally tell them, things would get better. Nooope. They don't care.

I don't really know. I doubt that my dad knows, and I really seriously do not know what my mom thinks. I don't hide where I hurt myself at all (I don't really wear long sleeves when I'm chilling at home.)

My parents used to know . . . like, um, 3 years ago, but they didn't give a crap about me, so I made it through that, and they think I stopped as soon as they told me to stop. Seeing how that's what perfect people do They also didn't think it was that bad . . . only showed them the arm that I had just started cutting, so they thought I'd done it like, maybe 5 times. Thank goodnees they didn't see that I'd just started using that particular arm because I had run out of room everywhere else . . .

Now though, I have absolutely no contact whatsoever with my parents, but my aunt and uncle know, and they're the best 'parents' I've ever had. So I said yes. And they're trying to get me to stop

I haven't done it for about a month now, and my parents don't know I ever did. I have friends who know that get me back on track when I mess up.

No, my parents don't know. My mum sees it as attention seeking and I reckon my dad would just make fun of me for it or something. That being said, if I told my mum, she'd be supportive, but the way she talks about suicide and self harm make me feel uncomfortable with her knowing. So as much as I love and trust my parents, neither of them know about my self harm.

No, they don't know. I don't want to worry them with it. A couple of my friends at uni know and I can talk to them about it, or come on here. Sometimes it feels like I'm lying to my parents but they're paranoid enough as it is. They don't need to know.

I said no - my parents have known in the past that I have but only afterwards, but they don't know about any from the last two/three years.

Yeah my parents know. Well I haven't done it in a year, but they found out a few months after I first started 8 years ago. They knew I continued to do it because of the frequent hospitalisations and the hundreds of scars now covering my body.

I said- I don't know. Mum thinks I had this bad habit of 'scratching myself when I'm stressed' (cos that's what I said I was doing..) but she hasn't seen all my injuries/scars and hasn't really called it 'self-harm' or 'cutting' which is what it is, so I don't know.

I had to answer "I don't know." To an extent they do, like they've found out at least three or four times that I've done it, but after that incident is over my mom checks my arms and legs for cuts for a few days, is convinced that I've stopped, and that's the end of it until next time she finds out somehow. Last time it was through my doctor. >>

Yes, both of my parents know. Actually, I think my entire family knows. They're all incredibly supportive of my recovery and want me to stop (obviously) so they don't make stupid jokes or anything like that in front of me. I'm lucky to have them.

They knew in the start and they were the most unsupporting people ever but the recent times, they had no idea.

My stupid counselor told them And then my mom told my dad and brother few weeks later I'd rather not have them know. They care about me but they obviously don't know how to react and help me with this.

I don't know what my dad knows. I've had endless trips to a&e and was admitted into a psychiatric hospital for 4 months because of my self harm so my mum does know.

I said no because I honestly don't think they know, I don't think anybody knows or cares really, everyone has their own problems Sometimes I think I see them looking at my wrists but they never say anything, so I think I'm just being paranoid I won't ever tell them, it's just something that I can't do

I put Don't Know because they saw my arm once when it was practically healed (looked like scratches by then) and we talked and they basically brushed it off. HA. The stupidity of parents sometimes. Oh well, I still love them on the inside.

My parents found out, they saw the cuts on my arm when I was 14 one time, then later that year they found more and my aunt told me how she saw them before but figured it was "nothing serious", and my mother asked me to stop. I did for a few months, but had slip ups that none of them noticed, my aunt noticed a recent relapse and again told me to stop (but took me seriously this time), and she made me tell my mom. Since then I have slipped up and passed the marks off as scratches from falling.

I told my mom a while back because I wanted to be able to talk to my doctor about it. So naturally she told my dad and some of my family. Let's just say the next few weeks were interesting with my mom's comments. Don't know if I should have told her afterall...

The did know but got angry and they don't think I do anymore, but they do notice any cuts or anything even if it's not from SH.

I've stopped for almost a year now, I did it for a relatively short time and never had any serious injuries. Nobody ever knew.

My Mum doesn't know and I doubt I'll be telling her anyone time soon. Mainly because she thinks people who self-harm do it because they're "bored" or their lives are so messed up they have nothing better to do with their time. She seems to think it's the equivalent to doing drugs or something. >_>

No my parents dont know- the only people that do are on th. Im actually really suprised at how many of your parents do know and I could never having that conversation, but if they found out by being told I think thats a really great thing and would love to be able to do that!
