For all of you. - August 11th 2012, 03:10 PM

So this is a weird post because weird things happened, and I needed to tell everyone.

Self harm doesn't make you weak. It doesn't make you less of a person than anyone else. It isn't a sign of illness or attention seeking, or being a freak. It isn't something to be joked about, it isn't something to be laughed at. It isn't something to be pointed out and whispered about.

Self harm is how we cope. Self harm is a part of being human, when your painful emotions are just too much to keep incorporeal and they just overflow. Self harm is nothing, nothing to be ashamed of. It may not be right, it may not be healthy, but god, don't let anyone tell you that it's wrong or weak. All of you, every last one of you who posts here and comments and gives support to everyone else, even when your own problems are swallowing you up, are amazing, beautiful, strong people. You are fighting this. You are going to win. Those scars are not a disfigurement. They are a badge of honour, a sign of great strength and a shout of to the world that you have fought something far greater than yourself and you have won.

On those bad days where it takes over and you can't stop it, don't be ashamed. Don't feel weak, because wars aren't won in a day and every now and again, you will take a step back. But compared to the dozens that you've taken forward, this is nothing. All of you are immeasurably strong and you can do anything, I know you can. Don't listen to what people say about SH being a cry for attention or a fad, don't listen to them.

Don't be ashamed. This is who you are, and you are amazing. You deserve to be respected and honoured for your acheivements in coming so far already.

You should be proud of yourselves, because I certainly am. Keep fighting it, and don't ever let it make you feel bad about yourself. You are all so very, very brave.

My inbox is always open, and I'm on the FB group if anyone ever needs to talk.

Thank you for posting this. It was definitely an encouragement.
