feeling triggered all the time - August 21st 2012, 12:55 PM

idk what to do i feel triggered like i need to self harm all the time
and when i do it comes back like 10 mins later.

i been like this since i started counselling should i stop going
is it the counselling making it worse.

ive tried some allternatives but the feeling doesnt go away
im not saying i just give in i do fight the feelings as long as i can.

i never used to get them when i was at work i could control that
now i find myself getting urges to harm at work and a few times i have gone off to the bathroom and cut my wrist. cos there was no other way to stop the feelings.

i hate the way i have become i hate myself.

any advice please

I'm really sorry you're going through this right now. It's really hard to deal with and it's so awesome that you're fighting this. I know you've tried some alternatives already, but you should still check out the Alternatives thread here. Sometimes you just have to keep trying things until something eventually works.

I'm sorry that talking to a counselor hasn't been helping you. That was one of the main things that helped me. Have you told your counselor about feeling triggered all the time? Maybe he/she has some advice for you about that. Is there any way you could try out a different counselor? I remember the first lady I went to was awful and I left feeling more urges than before, but my therapist I've been seeing for a couple years now is really great because I'm so comfortable around her. It's just like any other relationship, maybe you just haven't found the right person yet.

Does it seem like there's any pattern at all to when you feel triggered? Sometimes it seems random but even the tiniest thing could be setting you off. Maybe you could try keeping a little journal of what you were doing and thinking and feeling right before you started getting those urges. It could help you explain them and also be something to keep your hands busy so you're not cutting.

I wish you didn't feel like you hate yourself. No one deserves to feel that way. I hope I could be of any help, even just the smallest bit.

Take care of yourself. PM me if you ever need to chat.

Hope is real. Help is real. LOVE is the movement.
