Urges are back - August 27th 2012, 01:36 AM

I think I'm about to relapse again and I'm scared. I'm afraid I'm going to hurt myself again. I don't want to but I really feel that I need to. What to I do? I've been trying lots of the alternatives, but sometimes it seems like nothing helps enough.

hey there lovely, you'll get through this you've been trying so hard...when i used to get urges i started using a rubber band, but now i just decorate my arms with drawings and cover them with arm bands and bracelets, so i dont get reminded of what used to be there or what i wanted to be there.

Hey there

I have been been cutting myself for a long time. I've done it over 150 times and have scars on my arms, legs, stomach, wrists, ankles, upper thighs, everywhere. The past month I've made a sincere effort to stop, and my driving force was my 11 year old sister who was in great distress over my problem, I promised her I would stop. I haven't cut since but I'm scared I will relapse also. I'm still trying to figure out how to prevent a relapse, but your not alone in this as you know I really want to get better and I know I have the willpower in me somewhere.

Hi there.

Ultimately, you're the only one who can stop yourself from relapsing. Instead of telling yourself you think you are going to relapse, tell yourself you're not. Because you're the one who has control over your behaviours and actions. You're in control and if you set your mind to it, you can beat the urges.

Its great that you have been using distractions and alternatives instead of self harming. Even though you say you feel they haven't helped you very well, they've stopped you so far so keep on trying things and don't give up. Keep trying new things and remember that everything helps everyone differently and so it's all about trial and error and finding what helps you best.

You can do this. Keep your mind set and work hard.

Yeah, you're right. It's just so hard, and when things go wrong, it seems like the only thing that will help.

i know it always seems like the way out if things go wrong, especially if your used to using that as a method, if you change your habits, you can beat it

I know, and I'm trying. And most of the time now I can prevent myself from doing it with alternatives, but it just makes me feel worse because I don't have any way to actually feel better. If that makes sense.
