How to dispose...? - July 4th 2013, 02:17 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

So, uhh, this is probably a dumb question, but I want to get rid of my blades and I don't know if you just put them in the trash can, or what. :P Is there something special you have to do to dispose of them? Also, what would be the best way to conceal them in the trash, should I just wrap them in paper towels or something?
I feel like these are silly questions but I don't want to do something wrong. :P Thanks!

Hiya!

Well, I don't think there's any "special" way to dispose of them. If you want to dispose of them safely, you could put them in some sort of a container and close it tight. This would help with concealing them as well. But I wouldn't say it's really necessary, you could just wrap them in paper towels, like you said.

Personally, whenever I've gotten rid of a blade, I've thrown it into the river, but people have different ways of doing it.

I'm agreeing with Gareth here, what I've done is put them in a small box, closed it tight, and thrown it away. I agree also that wrapping them in a paper towel or something like that would work, and either would conceal it.

Considering that for the first 4 months I was self harming, my friend made me give him everything I used, once I was on my own, I had no idea what to do to get rid of them either. Usually though, any way that you conceal them will work

There isn't really a wrong way to get rid of them afterall

Anyways, good luck, hope this helped, and Stay Strong

Hey there,

I think that if you want to dispose of them properly, putting them in a box or a towel would work best. Make sure you find something that will cover the sharp ends so they won't poke through the trash and tear holes in it/injure anyone who may not realize they're in there. To conceal them I think paper towels would work pretty darn well.

Great job for wanting to get rid of your tools! I'm so proud of you!

Like others have said, you probably want to wrap them in something to cover the sharp ends (and if you want to conceal them). I have wrapped blades up in duct tape before to get rid of them. It covers the sharp blades, hides them in the trash, and makes it so I can't dig them out again. I'm glad you're wanting to get rid of your blades, that's a big step!

Technically if you want to get rid of them 'properly' they should go into something like one of the red bins doctors have for needles and stuff. However, no one really does that. I only know because my school got involved once.
Like everyone else said, just wrap it up and throw it out or something. I don't suggest throwing it into nature because it could potentially hurt something maybe but not world ending.

Oh gosh, sorry for the late reply guys!
I threw them out this morning. Thank you for all your encouragement! I threw them out because although I haven't been self harming frequently, nor have I been doing it for long I guess I kind of want to, like, nip it in the bud, as people say. Stop it before it gets worse...
I will admit I do miss it sometimes, though. But we'll see how this goes.
