Bruised - August 4th 2013, 05:17 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

This might be an odd question and I'm going to try not to get graphic. Sometimes, the area around my cuts get purple but that goes away within a few days. Right now, though, the area around my cuts is bruised. Is that normal?

Hi there Cassie

So, I've never had a bruising experience, but I have heard of cuts and sometimes even scars having bruises around them. From one, I heard that they were told they had nicked a muscle thus causing a bruise to form. Otherwise, it could be blood getting trapped within skin layers.

To care for it, first of all, keep it as clean as possible. If by any chance it is still bleeding, put pressure on it, make it stop, then clean it. Covering it would be a good idea, but do NOT put anything, such as hydrogen peroxide, on it. It will only make it worse.

If it continues to stay a bruise, you might need to get it checked out somehow. It could be infected, and use of an antibiotic may be needed.

Wish you the best sweetie... stay strong

Tay's right. Some blood could get stuck between the layers of the skin making it look bruised. However, make sure you wash it with soap and warm water often. Replace the bandage and keep an eye on it. Do you have any antibiotic cream? If it doesn't look better in a couple days, I'd get it looked at.

Hope it heals soon. Stay strong.

I used to clean them with alcohol swabs a lot. They look a little better now, I've never had that happened before. What you two said made a lot of sense. Thanks
