When my best friend talks about who he likes I feel like I'm not good enough.. - October 4th 2013, 04:38 AM

I wasn't really sure where to post this, but this seemed like the best place. I stopped self-harming for 11 days and then I messed up. It's been 3 days since then I think and I haven't tried to quit again yet. There's this guy. He's my absolute best friend. He know more about me than anyone. He's told me that he likes me but I still find it hard to believe. I like him too. More than that, I love him. We aren't dating though, and I don't think we ever will. I REALLY want to, but I'm not in the right mindset right now to be in a relationship. Still, he talks to me about whoever else he likes when he likes someone and stuff like that and since he's my best friend I have to encourage him to go for it if he really likes someone and act like it doesn't bother me, but it really does. He went to homecoming last week with this girl and right now he's telling me how he got to slow dance with her and she was so pretty etc. And of course, my mind starts telling me See, how could he ever like you? She's WAY prettier than you. He's finally getting over you and moving on.' and then I feel alone and not good enough and all this shit starts going through my head and I can't help it. That kind of thinking makes me really want to self-harm. I don't know what to do. I can't tell him I don't want him to talk to me about that, because I'm his best friend. I'm suppose to let him be happy and be happy for him. And I am, but at the same time I'm jealous and everything and it just sucks...

Hey there,

Communication is a key factor in relationships. Do you think you'd be able to tell him again that you like him? Maybe the two of you can sit down and you can tell him how you're really feeling: that you're happy for him but you're struggling with your self-esteem. I just want to let you know that you are good enough; you are worth this fight. And one day, you're going to find the perfect person for you. If you get any urges, feel free to message me and I'll respond when I can.
