Distraction websites - February 23rd 2014, 08:09 PM

I used to be a member here and I found some useful distraction websites, but have lost them now.
There were a few and included:
One where there was a white screen that you could "cut" with the cursor and it would bleed
One that you could smash with the mouse like glass
and one called the calm room

Does anyone remember these? My friends little sister has just started self harming at 12 and I'm trying to help as much as I can. I've given my friend this website and another, but think the websites above might help, I just can't remember the websites or find them by searching.
Can anyone help?

Hey there.

We have a few specific areas for Self Harm resources, and I know that at least one of the resources you mentioned should be listed in our Alternatives thread. You may also find our other resources useful too.

Hmm, I'm not sure of these either, but maybe you can find new games that may help? I'm sure that there are some games that will also be effective in taking up time. If you search "calming games" you may even be able to find relaxing ones.

There's a website called thisissand.com where you well, play around with sand and you can change the color of the sand, etc. It's actually kind of distracting.

Hi there,

I believe that "cut the screen" site is fataltotheflesh.com, if I'm not mistaken. I find it quite a useful alternative. I know of one similar to what you mentioned about smashing the glass called The Stress Game. Like Dez mentioned, there are tons of games out there, so you can easily search for more.

I hope everything goes okay for your friend and her sister! Wishing you all the best.

These are all really great:

Everyone has linked to some really cool sites that could be helpful so I don't have much to add. I'm sorry to hear about your friend's sister, I hope that she gets support on her self-harm issues. In a way, I think it's a great thing that you and her sister knows about this, that way she isn't alone in it. The last thing I can suggest is that your friend helps tell her about healthy ways to cope and some outlets to express herself. Maybe introduce her to poetry, or get her a private journal that she can vent in?

Best of luck!

Thankyou eveyone. I printed off a list of websites and distractions and my friend gave them to her sister. I'm really hoping they can help.
