I just need to get this out - May 14th 2015, 03:57 AM

Okay so,
So many people in this stupid world think that people who cut there arms or do other self harm things are looking for attention. but the truth is. we are just looking for something to feel. we are used to feeling this pain. this depression. that we rather have physical pain than mental pain.anything is better than mental pain. because you cant wrap a bandage around it. it stays there where ever you go. 24/7. We need to feel something besides mental pain.

Well explained, it's a very common misconception and one of the very many complex reasons why people tend to self-harm. It's one that most likely can't be understood properly by someone who hasn't had the same experience with self-harm as others have.

That's well explained but that might be why you cut but I self-harm for a lot more reasons than that. I self-harm because I can't control the pain everyone causes me but I can control the pain I cause myself. I feel so out of control I need something to ground me. And a lot more.

We break fast, cause we are glass.
Cause we are glass.

There are many different reasons people self-harm. What you described is one of them. I myself do it because I love the sensation pain gives me. I also use it as a punishment, as well as my way as "being sane again." It distracts me from the thoughts I have.

I do it because the pain that I cause other people is now being inflicted upon me as sort of a payback. It is also sort of distraction from everything else. There are many reasons people do it but true this is a big misconception people have about it. If it was for attention, why do we hide it?

Well said - self-harm (and for that matter, suicide and depression) are topics that many people are uneducated to, and therefore, such beliefs are unfortunately commonplace.
