Hey there,

Do you mind if I ask what has made you want to do this? I ask because there are always better ways to deal with situations that make you want to hurt yourself. Self harm never fixes the situation and mostly only makes it worse. Beyond leaving you with cuts/bruises etc, self harm has a lot of other effects on you which can make things worse in the long run. Firstly, it only provides you with a short term fix for a problem - and of course I use the term fix loosely, because it actually doesn't fix it at all. It might provide you with some sort of momentary release or relief, but after that, you're left with damage which only makes you feel worse about the situation, and you'll find that the problem which made you want to do this in the first place is still there and undealt with. As well as this, it can become quite addictive. If you give into urges, it soon becomes the first thing you think of and go to when things get tough, and sometimes it can become less effective and lead you to worse SH over time which can be quite dangerous. And of course, again, the problem is still unsolved.

Instead of hurting yourself, why not look into what you can do that might be a bit healthier instead. For instance, can you get away from the situation which is making you want to hurt yourself? Maybe you can go for a walk or a jog or run and get some air to clear your head. You could also sit in a room where other people are so that you're less inclined to give into the urges. This could also be a good distraction, so why not put on a film or play a game with some other people too? You could also keep a diary or draw something so that any emotions you have are out in the open and not causing you any physical harm.

Alternatives can be just about anything that works as long as it's healthy. SH is a really unhealthy way to cope, so please try to use some other techniques instead! Of course if you're struggling you can reach out whenever you like and people will be more than happy to help you through it. Try to take care and keep your chin up, you can get through this.
