Lightbulb I know this isn't a question but I wanted to share it - October 16th 2017, 06:24 AM

Now this may sound weird but for a while I didn't really know why I self harmed but I figured it out today
So I have bipolar and I can blow up at stupid things and whenever I would blow up like this I would cut now I don't cut for the small angers just the big ones but the cycle was I would blow up cut wait for it to heal then I was just a matter of time before the next blow up it could be days it could be weeks the longest was 2 weeks and today I cut again so the cycle begins again

Yes I know this isn't a question but I just wanted to share this

Hello and welcome to teenhelp Thank you so much for joining and sharing this with us, you did a great job.

When you self harm it doesn't just go away in a day or few weeks, it takes time to get to be ok with this. I am so glad that you know why you do this, sometimes a lot of other people don't know why they do this. Please don't be too hard on yourself when this happens, just look a it as you are going to be ok. It's just going to take sometime.
When you feel that you are going to self harm can you put on a funny TV show or movie or go for a walk, or get a rubber band or hair tie and put it around you're wrist and snap it every time you feel you are going to do this to get you're mind off of this. You want to find things to distract yourself and get you're mind off of this. I hope that you will be ok. And you are welcome to post more whenever you need to.

Hey,

Thank you for sharing this with us. Sometimes it is difficult to work on your self-harm if you arenít aware of what triggers you. Figuring out what triggers you is a sign of progress! Now you can figure out how to work through your triggers if you are ready.

Do you have any ways to cope with your anger? Maybe you could scream into a pillow, rip up some paper, or put your anger into something such as a poem or a dance. Please feel free to keep us updated on how youíre doing.

Thank for the support I am working on controlling my anger and trying to stop cutting it is hard I'm one day clean hey u gotta start somewhere

last night was hard i really wanted to cut but i could not cuz i got rid of my blades i even came up with a plan to get some new blades it was a real war going on in my head luckily i tired my self out enough to fall asleep

Hey there,

Figuring out the reasons that you self harm is a really big step towards recovery. I think one of the reasons that I have been able to abstain from self harm is because I have identified my triggers and I have been able to work on finding coping skills.

Please don't be hard on yourself for relapsing. They happen but if you beat yourself up about it, it is more likely that it will be hard of you to get back to a place of recovery.

I think that working on finding coping skills for your anger would be a good thing. I know one of my biggest self harm triggers in anger and so I have, slowly, found some things to help me cope with that.

Hi, it's going to be ok. I know that you are upset about this, please don't be too hard on yourself. Can you try and do something that you enjoy doing to help you be ok for a while. Can you put on funny movies or TV shows? Doing this it will make you laugh and then you are not thinking about what happened.
Or do you have a friend that you can talk to about this? Try not to think about it, you're going to be ok. Hugs.
