I'm just another depressed failed teen artist. - August 10th 2009, 06:08 AM

I feel pressure, a lot of it, to be a great artist.
I hold so much high standards for myself.
Standards i can never meet.
I keep making myself frusturated, i just really really want to cut now..
I miss it, it is one of the things i can do with out the high expectations and it calms me down.
mehhh.

Hey,

It can be difficult when you hold such high expectations and you expect so much of yourself, because not all the time these expectations are realistic. Then you feel bad when you can't meet up to your expectations. It might calm you down for a short while but is is really worth it? You will be left with scars and probably feel bad afterwards once you have realised what you have done. I don't think it is worth all that. Have you looked at the alternatives thread? If not that has loads of great suggestions on so you should check that out. You don't have to self harm so don't give up. Keep strong :-)

Well, congrats on not doing it and falling asleep. =P
Maybe you can try to see what others have to say about your work? I know it's hard to show others what you've done when you don't like it, but maybe if someone does like it or something about it they can tell you and you can work from there?
If you ever want to talk or anything, PM me. ^^

try to remember your capability dont set your expectations above what you know your able to do because if you set your expectations to what you know you physically cannot do you will keep ending up feeling like you do
just remember with any piece of art it doesnt matter if its perfect because there is no right or wrong and each piece of work is individual if your not happy with it then by all means try again and see if you can improve it but never think that its not good enough because it is no matter how good or bad you think it is you can be a fantastic artist by splashing paint on a canvas its that easy or you can draw fantastic detailed pictures but you will always find fault in them faults no one else will ever see except you but there not faults at all there just something that makes a piece of work unique

by the way you may think im talking aload of rubbish but its personal experience ..... genetic from my mother who also never believes in herself and finds the tinies faults in whatever she does but she never sees mine and i never see hers
hope this helps x

i do show people my art all the time, they allways like it, well for the most part.

and yeah i get what you're saying.
I see things that are all wrong but others can't see them.
I guess i'm just getting stressed with my AP studio art class coming up, i have a summer storyboard project due to be sent in, in a few days and i can't finish it, and i have to get it done or i wont be in the class

Okay I understand your fear for your upcoming class, that actually explains a lot.
Why can't you finish your project?
