I don't think self-injury is something anyone really just quits, it's a constant battle with yourself. As much as you'll hate hearing this, it's probably a good thing you're going to get help from a professional-- especially considering you don't even remember so many of the cuts and it sounds like you have motivation to quit (since you've already tried quitting). Even though it is something you're understandably scared about, people have miraculous recoveries from their self-injury. If the psychiatrist/psychologist/whatever that your mom wants you to go to isn't the right match for you and doesn't help how you'd like, I highly suggest you continue trying to find a professional who you really get along with well. If one thing doesn't work you just have to keep trying until you find something that does work. The people here at TeenHelp are amazing, and it's great you posted this for your sake. If you want any help trying to find a psychiatrist in your area or want any more help or encouragement with this you can always PM me.

Bottom line, try to be thankful your mother is trying to help you, it means she cares about you and doesn't want you to be hurting mentally or physically anymore. If she's going to make you go to a psychiatrist, you might as well try to make it worth your while since it sounds like you think you need to stop. I promise you that going to one won't be as scary as it seems at first. Good luck with things.
