My ring - a new SH alternative :)

Maybe this should go in the "good days" thread... but it has more to do with SI & recovery than anything.

Well, a while back in sophomore year I ordered my class ring. At my school, each class receives their rings in October of their junior year at a Mass (my school is Catholic). It's always really nice and I love the formality behind it.

Anyways, I finally got mine this past Thursday night. Every junior has to get the purple stone with the CHS logo on one side, but the opposite side, metal, and engravings on the inside are all up to us.

Mine is silver, with my name on one side. Beneath my name, I got a butterfly. At the time I ordered it, I had gone 4-5 months without self-harming, and I wanted it to be a representation of my recovery. On the inside, I had my nickname - Beccalicious - engraved in my best friend Kevin's handwriting.

And even though I slipped up over the summer, I'm back on track. I'm using my ring for the butterfly project... as long as I wear it, I can't cut. And since class rings are pretty expensive and mine is a litle difficult to get off, I fully believe I'm not going to cut anymore.

And the timing of the Mass was excellent. Yesterday, the day after the Mass? 100 days SH free. :)

I love this story. :-)

I've been toying with the idea lately of getting a piece of jewelry to symbolize my recovery. We ordered our class rings through Jostens. One of the most interesting things that they had were awareness ribbons. You can get anything on the sides of your class rings these days and you can get awareness ribbons, sure enough. You could choice the color of the ribbon and I wanted to get orange very badly, but I didn't want to have to explain it to EVERYONE.

I have a red bracelet that symbolizes my past struggle with an eating disorder. I don't wear that nearly as much as I used to anymore, though. I have yet to find anything that I like that would be appropriate for symbolizing my struggle with self harm though. I'm definitely keeping my eyes open, however. I'll be shopping for new jewelry soon enough. In a couple of months, I'll be able to change my belly button ring. :D

:D Thanks guys. I take it off sometimes, like if I'm going to shower, use the bathroom, or go to bed (sometimes not even then!) but otherwise it's on. Oh, and if I'm showing people.

Amanda... we got our rings through Josten's too! The customization you can get is actually pretty epic, so I'm THRILLED with mine. :)

Just as a warning, be careful when showing people. I recently had to go to the nurse because I got something stuck on my finger (a key chain *blushes*). We got it off in class, but they sent me there because my finger was blue. She says that lots of people end up with someone else's class ring stuck on their finger. She showed me the ring cutter device that she has. I'd hate to have my ring cut because I let Sally Sue try it on.

I'm a big fan of Jostens. I got my middle school class ring through there (which I'm still wearing right now--until I get my high school ring, anyway). It's not real, it's just silvertone but I love it. I was so surprised at all of the options you have with class rings now. I got something that is pretty traditional, but I loved some of the other rings they had. I definitely would love to have one of those heart shaped rings that they have with my name and my (future :p) boyfriend's name on it. Looks like a sweet promise ring if you ask me. ;-)

Now that I've read this thread though, I've looked at a TON of jewelry online. I ultimately want to get a tattoo to symbolize my experiences with self harm, but I'd settle for jewelry until then. Anyway, I've found a few things that I'm interested in and hopefully I'll purchase something eventually. Probably won't be until Christmas, but it'll all work out.

Mine is from Josten's too! But we can't customize. Only color and the engraving on the inside. I got mine junior year, and my ring is too big now! But that's awesome, and your ring sounds beautiful! Keep up the amazing work.

I'll definitely have a problem with showing people - that is, if they want to put it on. I have the tiniest fingers ever; I think my ring is like, a size 4 or 4.5? But it's the perfect size.

I always have jewelry to symbolize stuff. I've had quite a few bracelets for SI - mainly orange and white ones :) and right before I got my class ring, I got a "new perspective on life" ring from a fair vendor that I've gotten jewelry from before.

And I want to get a SI tattoo someday as well! I have it planned out, but it's changed before, so we'll see what happens.

Oh, and isn't Josten's seriously adaptable when it comes to resizing and changing rings? That's what we were told by our local rep. when he came to talk to us about rings.

What's the deal with the orange and white? Is that a personal thing or something often related to SH? Sorry, just wondering :P
