To Write Love on Her Arms Day - November 13th 2009, 02:28 PM

Everyone today is To Write Love on Her Arms Day...to take part in this, write love on your arm today and show it off. When anyone asks you why you have "love" written on your arm, tell them its to support the non-profit organization To Write Love on Her Arms that helps with people who suffer from addiction, depression, self-harm, and suicide. Show your support!!

Here is their website: www.twloha.com

you decide to write the word "love" on your arm, please remember the
heart of the matter. The goals were never "cute" or
"fashion". Our title, "to write love on her arms", the
phrase was born as a goal and it remains a goal. We're inviting people to fight
for their lives and for the lives of their friends. We're inviting... people to
believe better things.

Re: To Write Love on Her Arms Day - November 13th 2009, 07:51 PM

So that's why the girl in my zoo class has Love written on her arms...

And Jessie, I agree. TWLOHA has been made from a great organization, to a trend... There are so many people who wear the shirts, and also make fun of people for cutting or for being anorexic or depressed or whatever. It makes me sick. It makes me want to puke on their nice new cute shirt. But mostly on them!

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

Well hey, at least when they buy the t-shirts, the money is going to treatment centers and such. They might be douches, but at least they're accidently being nice people. I agree. I hate that. Most people at my school that where TWLOHA shirts, though, do it because they actually support it.
I wrote it today.

Re: To Write Love on Her Arms Day - November 13th 2009, 10:54 PM

TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery. You need to know that your story is important and that you're part of a bigger story. You need to know that your life matters.

The vision is that community and hope and help would replace secrets and silence.
The vision is people putting down blades and bottles.
The vision is that we can reduce the suicide rate around the world.
The vision is that we would learn what it means to love our friends
and that we would love ourselves enough to get the help we need.
The vision is better endings
The vision is people finding life, finding freedom, finding love
The vision is the possibility that your best days are ahead.
The vision is the possibility that we're more loved than we'll ever know.

The vision is hope, and hope is real.

Personally, I joined in with TWLOHA day and wrote "love" on my arm and for today I didn't self harm once. I think its really lovely and when you read that it reminds you of all the other people who feel the exact same way. Doesn't everyone want those visions? I know I do. Call me pathetic if you want but I cry when I read it because it makes me sad that so many people are hurting so much, it makes me sad when I look at the self harm/depression etc boards and see all the people who are struggling and need help. I see people who are keeping secrets and trying to manage alone. I see people who deserve help but are too scared to get it. I'm not judging anyone because I am the same but, just for today, I cut self harm out of my life and it gives me hope.

Jen,
I agree 100% with everything you said right there!

I showed my support today. I woke up this morning with two of my friends sending my pictures in texts of how they wrote Love on their arms. It made me tear up, because they known how much this organization means to me. I love them for that. I love this day. My physical therapist asked what my shirt was all about, and he wanted to keep learning more about it. It felt like a good day today.

I wrote Love, wore a TWLOHA shirt, and carried around a TWLOHA bag. I was all over this.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this event. It's great that we have found a way to show our support anually.

I wrote love on my arm, and showed it off at work, my co-workers asked me why I wrote it on my arm, and I explained to them what it was..

Next thing I knew they had markers in their hands and were writing love on their arms. That made me SOO happy that they did that, we had customers asking us all day what it meant, and why we did it. So we explained it. By the end of my shift, we had gotten over a dozen customers to write love on their arm. I have never witnessed anything like this before..

We got the evening people to do it as well, and I can't wait to find out how it went.

November 10th was one year since I'd last made a cut. November 12th was TWLOHA day. One year free, and all I can say is that recovery is possible.

That's so awesome Brittany!
I wore my shirt and wrote love, but the only person who asked about it was my sister...so I don't have a story like that. But that's so cool you got to share with that many people (:

I wrote love and proudly wore the shirt to school. It was amazing to find that a couple of friends I'd mentioned it too were affected by it and already had 'LOVE' written across their arms

I wrote love on my arm, and was planning on writing it on my friends arms... but everyone I know had already written it! It was SO awesome to see so many people with LOVE written on their arm
