I think I've run out of veins - May 23rd 2010, 08:27 PM

On my arm. I keep looking on my arm for more visible veins to cut but I'm pretty sure I've cut them all. At least all the ones that choose to show. My veins have always been a problem because they like to roll, I get that from my mother so it causes problems like getting blood drawn or getting an I.V. the nurses poke me so many times and fail to get a vein. It's horrible but that's not the point. The point is I guess I'm going to have to wait for these cuts to heal before I cut them again. Unless more show up

Hey Kasey.
I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but have you considered talking to somebody about this? Self-harm isn't a healthy coping method, and it's definitely worth trying to stop.

Nothing in the world is
the way it ought to be.
It's harsh, and cruel.

But that's why there's us - champions.
Doesn't matter where we come from,
what we've done or suffered,
or even if we make a difference.

We live as though the
world is as it should be,
to show it what it can be.

I agree with Chess. Talking to someone like a good friend would be a good thing.

Why do you slice the veins? Why can't you just cut around them or something? Thankgod i haven't cut one yet, but what happens when you do? I hated having to go to hospital for mine and i felt so ashamed. Do you feel the same?

Hey Kasey,

I'm glad you've posted, I mean it shows that you're willing to take some advice about what you're doing to yourself and for that I give you kudos.

As you know, I'm sure already, that self harm is a coping mechanism to how you may be feeling. Is there any particular reason why you cut? Or any particular feeling you experience when you want to cut? These are questions that you'll have to answer as time goes by, but they are important when identifying your triggers of wanting to cut.

Because self harm is a coping mechanism, what you need to do is find new ones, healthier coping mechanisms that you can use. At the top of this forum there is a stick on safe alternatives to self harm, and they are categorised by how you may be feeling. There are a number of different things that are on that list, so I know that there is one on there for you. It may take time to find something that suits you...but it's worth taking the time to look for it.

Trying to cut visible veins is a very dangerous thing to do, though I'm sure you know this too. If you cut too deep, you could bleed out and die. Perhaps that is your goal? But it's the truth, it's not a smart idea and I wouldn't want to know that you aren't here on TH because you're being stiched up in the hospital instead

I would really suggest talking to someone about what is going on in your life and talk about your self harm. Perhaps a school counsellor, or a religious leader, a family friend, trusted adult, your parents, sibling, a good friend, someone here on TH, anyone, just talk to someone about what's going on. More preferably someone that will be able to support you in person and can help you get the right treatment, and I know it may be scary, but I think that it's something that will be good for you. You just have to stay strong.

It's ultimately up to you whether or not you want to stop self harming, or to want to try to stop. It's up to you if you talk to someone who can help. It's all up to you. It's scary to think that but it's true, you are the one in charge of your life, and if you slip and really cut a vein open...you won't be in charge anymore, and that's scary.

I really hope that this helped a wee bit love. What you're doing is really dangerous and I really urge you to talk to a professional to get help. It's scary but worth it, at least look into the alternatives. Please take care of yourself and PM me anytime if you want to talk.
