Triggering (SH): i think my dad knows

i think my dad knows that i have been cutting, whenever im walking round the house and to him i look nervous ect, and im fiddleling with my sleeves he keeps asking me ' whats in your hand ?' i tell him nothing i was just adjusting my sleeve, which is always true,but im alwys nervous around my dad because of my dads temper. my mum has asked me if i self harm i have told i dont but i do, but i think my dad knows that i am cutting.

Chances are if your Mom asked you she is already pretty sure you do and has discussed it with your Dad. If they ask again you may just want to tell them the truth.

If your mom has asked, maybe your dad is the one who brought it to her attention and had her ask? If one of them is suspicious about this, chances are the other is too. They've probably both talked about this since they both have showed signs of knowing about your self harm.

I know how scary it can be when you're worried someone knows about your self harm. I have been there, and I know how scary it must be for you. I just want to say, though, that letting my mom know about my self harm was the best thing I ever did. I was having a hard time with depression, and I was angry with my mom and finally just had enough, and decided I'd show her my scars. I didn't do it in the way that I should have, but regardless, it got me the help that I needed, and today I am a lot happier than I was back then, after receiving professional help.

I know it's not easy, but maybe you might want to consider telling your parents the truth. If you're worried they may be angry, maybe you could try printing off some information on self harm and the reasons people have behind doing it, as well as any other information you'd like to share with them when and if you tell them. If they have some facts on self harm and know more about it than they do as of right now, they may be more concerned than angry with you.

I know it's not an easy decision, but it's something to consider. Maybe getting this off your chest and getting the help you need is the best thing for you. Your parents suspicions may be a sign that now is the time to get this out in the open. I hope that things go well, and that you make the right decision for yourself. Take care, and PM me anytime.

I know how scary it can be to tell parents about SH, but it's possible to tell them and once you tell them, you will probably feel a lot better because someone else will know what you are doing to yourself and it won't be something you have to hide as frequently because those around you will know about it, you won't have to be as worried about what they might say to you if they see scars or anything.
I think printing off information, suggested by the previous poster, would be a good idea, that way they know what SH is and why people do it, this will not only help them be less angry with you, but it will allow them to understand where you are coming from and the possible reasons for your SH. You could also include a letter with the information, telling them that you SH and maybe explaining anything else you feel they should know, such as how long you've SH'd, what got you started with SH, Etc.
I know this is hard to do, but I know you have the strength and power to get your feelings and your problem with SH out in the open so you can get help.

You may want to tell your parents yourself before someone else does. Expecially because if they already know and you don't think they do, the lies will build up and eventually you may feel guilty. They want to be there for you, regardless of how they react. Many parents are angry, because they think you want to die. But you know on the inside the reasons why you self harm, and they're looking for those answers too. When and if you do decide to tell them, however, you should really be 100% honest and let them know everything that's going on. That way in the future, you'll have at least one of them to go too when you're struggling and help comfort you.

i think my dads had suspissions for about 3 months as he came in my room once and i hid something behind my back and he asked me what i was hiding and i told him nothing he then checked but as i moved i put the blade in my pocket and got up and my dad looked where i was sat and found nothing, and now whenever he sees me and im fiddeling with my sleeve hes like whats in your hand what are you hiding, the thing is though i cant tell him i am cutting ect because hes one of the many reasons as to why i do cut. and the other reasons i dont think i can talk to my parents about.
