Venting. - September 10th 2011, 09:28 PM

Pretty aggravated right now.. Just need to vent, I guess.
Someone wrote on Facebook as a status: "getting a random spot on my ear pierced, feel the need to feel pain" and some ignorant person commented on her status: "Cut your wrists, feels better".
How can people mock self-harmers like that? I just don't get it

Hey lovely.

I know how annoying this can be but try and not let it get to you. The person writing it clearly doesn't understand anything about the reasons people self harm and perhaps didn't realise it would upset people. And if they did think that it might upset or offend someone then it's really now worth it.

Try to keep your chin up. Don't let it drag you down.

I hope you're well.
Jessie

People don't understand. There's this huge unknown linking SHers and non-SHers. When some people don't understand something at all, they embody this ignorant self. But those are the kind of people that may never understand why that comment may hurt someone else as much as it has offended you. You just have to relax, take a deep breath, and realize that said person probably isn't worth the trouble.

Yeah it upset me for the moment but I am okay for the most part. I have learned to ignore the ignorance but it just caught me off guard I guess. I just wish people would be more understanding. :/

I hate when people say stuff like that.
A couple times my friends have made jokes about SH, and I laugh along with them so it doesn't look suspicious, but it really hurts. It doesn't happen often, but I just wish people would stop being so insensitive........

I know exactly what you mean, my friends are so insensitive about SH saying only people who want attention do it or people who are really unstable and should go into a mental asylum.

Aw, yeah, I totally understand. I think that it's kind of like the way people treat drugs and alcohol too; people that don't understand certain things just make fun of it without realizing the impact that it can have on other people. I think that sometimes you just need to let others know that it's not funny.

I hate it when people just joke around at Self-Harm! I just asked my own mother where my dad was, and she said "oh he's probably cutting himself to try and feel better" I mean where did that come from?! And I haven't told them about my Self-Harm yet and now I'm Afraid to...

People say I'm happy, and I'm good at what I do, but what people never realize is that I'm a damn good actress too...
