self harm? - September 19th 2011, 12:03 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I don't really know if all these coping stratageies count as self harm,but the things I resort to to cope at the moment are slitting my wrists, the bend in my arm(opposite your elbow) and up my arm, slitting my thighs,and my ribs, overdosing regularly,smoking cannabis and smoking and drinking in general, smacking my head against hard surfaces,holding my breath until i go to sleep and feel dizzy..
I really want to stop, I do. But every time i try Suicide seems the only coping method left. I've had therapists,doctors your name it,family support but its just not helping. I have no true friends either now, and other issues like my dad are just making it harder and harder to cope when i have no more support. Is there anything i can do?
thanks

Hey there;
Sorry you're feeling like this, at the moment. Really, the thing that's going to help you stop is you HONESTLY wanting to stop, because if you have the drive, you can do it. Also, the alternatives to self harm, which are located at the top of this forum are great for distractions. you just have to find your outlet and what works for you. Best of luck!

Hey there,

Anything that is done with intention to harm your body is classed as Self Harm, so i would those things probably are.
I'm really sorry things are hard for you right now but Self Harm and Suicide are not the answer, they never are. Life is beautiful, your body is beautiful, you need to look after it. I would suggest talking a look at the alternatives thread, these will help to distract you when you get the urge to hurt yourself. It is trial and error so therefore not all may work for you but hang in there and you WILL find one that does.

If you ever want to talk, feel free to PM me,

Take care and stay strong,
Charli
